If you cut some bubble wrap into thin strips, wrap it around your sticks then cover it in insulation tape or cammo tape it stops them banging together.
If you cover your sticks fully in cammo tape then leve them by mistake they are a nightmare to find afterwards.

I'm amazed at how complicated this can get. My sticks are hazel poles (nose height) with an exhaust pipe hanging ring ( rubber band about half inch diameter by 3 inch circle) making an all purpose bipod (in realtree) which can be adapted for standing , sitting walking etc etc.....

I wonder who else would be daft enough to do that?:doh:

Just slide a piece of rubber radiator hose pipe about 3" long, up from the bottom of one stick

that'll stop the rattle.

I found that lamb castration rubber rings are perfect, no messing will fit all size poles, so next time you see your local sheppard ask him for a hand full, failing that scats sell them.

Ive just spent ten of my hard earned english pounds and made a set of these, now all i need is a rifle and something to stalk

Great tip, thank you

Thought I would follow up on this.

made some changes to the models that people have already made and proven to be useful.

two garden stakes with a 3mm screw head bolt, double washer in the middle for smooth operation and it gives some clearance for the grip.

grips are slightly tacky to the touch, actually mesh tape used on squash rackets. my squash career is over so I thought it would come in handy and also the colour might help me find the bloddy things when left against a tree!

heres the best bit!:
2kg pull magnets expoxied into place opposite each other.
Holds the sticks perfectly together but can be opened one handed.

B&Q finest O-rings to safequard any clattering should that occur

put some more grip tape at a comfortable height for using as a staff.

I also have a long dog leash which when the handle end is looped over the one of top spurs stretches down to the ground with about a foot long piece trailing.
stand on the end and push the sticks away from you and you have a tripod without the extra stuff to carry.

stole that idea from here (bottom of page): Instruction
total cost: £8

I'd swap the plain nut for a locknut so it doesn't work loose in use. (I found that out on my wooden sticks many moons ago). Plus the 3mm diameter bolt is a wee bit small for my liking. But if it works enjoy using it.

its loctited on, I also filed the bolt end down, so highly unlikely to come loose.

not sure what kind of force I would require to snap a 3mm bolt as the poles bend at the slightest invitation.
keeping the weight down ....

I have B&Q canes with a 6mm bolt 10" down to hold them together and they work fine but I splashed out and got these a few years ago

easier to put in the car without knicking holes in all sorts.

£30!! outrageous.
goes completely against my "feck it.,these will do" nature!! :)
