Folks, I’m posting this just for interest. I don’t need to know what you do etc. just curious whether you actually enjoy going to work or not. I’ve hopefully set the poll up anonymously but it’s the first time trying this.

I’m currently very much in the camp of , it pays the bills. Could be worse etc. The other half says that maybe time to consider a career change. To which my thought was, most folk probably don’t enjoy their work? But then maybe I’m wrong..

Might have a slightly skewed demographic on here with a lot of folk being outdoor based vs an office job etc but interesting to see what pans out.
Actually I'm retired now. I used to design and build gardens, at one point employing a team of highly skilled staff. I won both local and national awards for my projects and took a great deal of pride in my achievements. However to be brutally frank I was only in the job to earn a living, I certainly don't do any gardening as a hobby and in common with other land based industries it was damned hard work compared to many other occupations.

I left school at fifteen (1954) with no eduction certificates of any kind and three weeks later was in the army for a twelve year stint. During that twelve years they educated me, taught me to shoot, drive, type, handle a small boat, fly light aircraft and generally look after myself. On demob I became a civilian pilot, saw the world at someone elses expense and enjoyed every day of my working life. I retired at 65, became a keeper and now do deer management over several farms in East Anglia. So, workwise, I have enjoyed every day of my retired life too. I am now 85 and still going strong if at a somewhat slower pace. I consider myself one very lucky man and not one part of it was ever planned. It just happened - aided by by a lot of hard graft and swatting in the early years.
That sounds brilliant

But I have to be picky and say , you’ve never retired , simply kept working albeit enjoying it.

Big difference 👍

I left school at16, straight into the car trade.eventually restoration of classic cars , absolutely loved it but didn't pay enough.left it.
worked in a large body shop in a booth for 10 years absolutely hated it but I was paid well.i just left on my 40th birthday when my mortgage was up.
next I went into property and I loved it, mainly conservation work.
retired from that and now do my game keeping and shooting as well as messing about with old motorcycles in the workshop.
don't need to work as the rent pays the bills.
the trend seams to me the more you earn the less you tend to like the job.

Now retired after thirty odd (some very odd!) years in the Health Service and a few unusual jobs prior to that....... loved loads of it.....hated some of it with a vengeance......do it again? Probably?
Pick up my State Pension in two and a bit months - unless the thieving Chancellor suddenly changes the rules - as long as I've enough money to enjoy my lifestyle, I'll be a happy bunny:D

The current Labour government has variously described OAPs as unaffordable and a burden on the taxpayer. Funnily enough when I was working I used to feel the same about paying income tax and national insurance contributions. However, it was a statutory obligation with no opt out, its a great disappointment that the government don't feel the same way about their obligations now that it is pay back time!

In the early years I really enjoyed working in pathology. Small lab extremely experienced and skilled staff. A great team. I enjoyed interaction with medical staff and felt part of a team. Huge variety of work. Fast forward 20 + years centralised highly mechanised lab no interaction with hospital and clinical staff. Using some high tech instruments and technology. Snowed under in paperwork for regulatory compliance. Hated it. With a stroke of luck made redundant 3 months after reaching 60 so paid off mortgage and retired on NHS pension. Money wise surviving but with luck get state pension in late 2025.
No desire to work ever again. 20 yrs of up at 7am back home at 7pm and 25k miles per year commuting. It took its toll.

Pays the bills

Very niche Job

There’s less of us in the UK than there is neurosurgeons.

I’d be more keen for it , if it wasn’t largely weekend work due to needing road closures and such.

It’s also very dangerous and mistakes can easily result in multiple deaths.

Overall I’ve enjoyed my various jobs and career. First 5 years or so was a bit of a misfire, but since then wouldn’t change anything.
Spent a long time in oil and then wider industrial stuff. A change a couple of years back into technology/ communications - a change was indeed as good as a rest.
Now on the final approach towards retirement before I reach the tipping point. My cynicism index is increasing as it does for many, as my bullsh1t tolerance index is declining. Hopefully retirement before they intersect.

From aged 15 to 30 worked in agriculture mainly as a herdsman. 30 to 53 worked in the concrete repair game. Enjoyed both of those jobs in the main. Moved to Sweden and worked in a factory till I was 72 mostly enjoyed that job. Now retired and enjoying that.

Retired (cooncil) 6 years ago at 52, new management came in n ****ed the job, however it was a blessing in disguise 😂. Al never be a rich man but am happyish, never worked so hard, on ma pheasant shoot full time n ma pensions ma wages, still moan every day aboot something,,,,,,a like moaning😁

Let me just stick a finger in the air and see which way the winds blowing that will determine if I like my job today. Running a small business with about 20 staff it’s an emotional rollercoaster 😂.

I really enjoy most aspects of my job, I love the technology and innovation. however as I’m in the Oil and Gas industry I hate the fact we have become vilified in the U.K. and some other parts of the world.

I would love to steer my children into the industry but I’m afraid the lefty liberal world will shut the industry down and move humanity into the dark ages for the apparent greater good.
Sounds a bit like farming at the minute, I walk around all day, wracked with guilt everytime I hear a cow fart. But as I've always said to the wife, I could never hold down a real job

40 years as a heating engineer with British Gas. Last 10 years h and safety killed the job. Kids telling me what to do and technology also a huge pain for me. Hated it. Retired at 55 on a pension and spent the last 7 years gardening 3 days a week unless I'm shooting. Love it now.
