Shot this Doe, animal behaving normally beforehand, however the small black nodes on the stomach lining look large, does anyonw know what they are or if they are some kind of parasite?IMG_20120315_091625.webpIMG_20120315_091629.webp

Quite common in the deer round here. Usuall see it in the fatty deposits arround the pelvic cavity. If different what is the Mesenteric lymph nodes like. If they are normal everything should be fine. Jim

Thread resurrection..... but I shot a young doe and the stomach looked like this. Almost like small splinters in the stomach wall... rough to touch.

Everything else was normal, although not pregnant.

Any thoughts as it was not conclusively answered above.

He's interested, but not seen it before! As most are close to blood vessels I think they are probably the same haemal nodes you see in deer and it's just responding to the microbes in the rumen. As an aside and in looking this up, I've seen the haemal nodes are not connected to the lymphatic system at all.

it was a bit of weird one, not seen it before. it was last light and I had forgotten my head torch so could not get any decent photos but there were a lot more of these little black/brown splinter like marks all across the wall of the stomach than in the photos above. No larger lumps as shown on those photos or anything and as said the rest of the nodes all looked fine. kicking myself for not trying to take a photo now!

@Buchan these seem to be at a couple of different levels in the rumen wall, some just under the surface membrane and then some that are deeper (look more opaque). Do you think these have the same source as each other? Cheers
