Don't give up!

I've read a few posts on here and PW where people have said door knocking doesn't work.

I lost my perms to housing development and new owners/changing attitudes over the last few years.

This morning I saw someone drilling and there was a load of crows on the field so stopped at the farmhouse and knocked, lady of the house said let me ring my husband on the tractor, he will want to speak to you.

Well the farmer pulled over at the end of the field and basically said when can you start! Pretty local so I nipped off got the gear and headed back.

Few difficult hours trying to decoy the crows but a few pigeons made an appearance. Ended up with a small bag.

At the end of the day it kept the birds off the drilled & rolled part of the field however the seagulls were hammering where he was still drilling.

The farmer was happy and invited me back Saturday when they will be drilling beans.

So don't give up now is an ideal time to knock and ask as seed is expensive!

Good ground conditions here currently, it has rained for an hour or two this evening but i don't think that should interrupt play too much.

Hopefully you can get out soon. Could use a few others getting out to keep the pigeons moving - I didn't hear a single other shot today.

Hello, It started to snow today then turned to rain but hopefully start friday or weekend, First field is a good spot for pigeon in the past so 🤞

Well done and good effort. Hopefully you will have a permanent job there.

I didn't think they talked about shooting on pw anymore 🤔 usually just politics 🤣

Went out knocking yesterday. About two hours of driving around. One farm said no we shoot ourselves, two said oh we have loads of people that shoot here, one took my card to pass on to the boss.

Always worth asking and leaving a card just in case, you never know where word of mouth might get to.

20 years ago I would load the gun and pigeon shooting gear in my car and go for a drive. If I saw a likely looking field with pigeons on it I would ask the farmer for permission for the day to shoot it. I would say I had a 75% chance of getting a yes. The hardest part was finding the farmer, as so many have land away from their home farm. I was not the only one doing this, I had friends who did exactly the same, they left work on a Friday lunch and tried to find a field to shoot on the Saturday. Rarely did they not get permission to decoy.

Only stopped because fuel got so expensive and any outlets for woodpigeons also dried up.

Also worked for rabbit shooting and on a couple of occasions for geese.

If you do not ask you do not get….
