anyone going to the dortmund jagd show the best show i have ever been to and we now go every year the show its mostly rifles deer stalking boar and big game with fishing and an indoor lake with carp sturgen swimming about just payed for the easy jet flghts an worked out at under £30 return so very cheap and worth a look

Yes, im going and im gald to hear you have been there before and enjoyed it, we booked it about a month ago not knowing much about it so really looking forward now..

Great show - just be careful if you park a hire-car in the streets adjacent. There is a near-by football stadium and when a match is due, 60 cars at a time will be towed away to the pound. Park careful out there! ;0)

it is the high light of my year and puts all of are shows to shame and the beer go's down a treat if you like rifles this is the place to go but if your a shotgun man not so good what hotel did you book

I"ve helped my pal out there for 4 or 5 years on his stand (SfA it is dog handling equipment located just near the escalator).
It got a great dog section also with all the proper breeds represented.
It"s really a 2 days show to do it well but I was always knackered after the days work so I dont know any good hang outs in the town but anywhere near a main railway station is always a good bet in Germany for good cheap food.
Enjoy.

Just booked myself and 3 mates up for this jolly, going Thursday early, getting the Friday evening flight home. Sounds right up my street.

Went last year for the first time, it is an amazing show some of the taxidermy on display was spectacular, there was a full body mount elephant, and as said you really need two days at it as the first day you just walk about with your mouth open.
Not making it this year as I'm going to be in Vegas with my work, but by a magical coincidence the Safari Club International expo is on at the same time so going to do a couple of days at that

Hi,

I went to this show about six years ago when I was on a boar hunting trip with my German chum. I have to say it was well worth the changing our plans to visit prior to my flight back to Scotland.

However, I am rather interested to learn where you are flying from to get a return ticket for £30.00 and make it an away day.

I think it a good idea for a couple of my chums here in Aberdeen to have a weekend visit.

Try to visit the IWA in Nurnberg. Supposedly only for the trade but your gunshop should be able to help you get entry. I found that a league above Dortmund, all the latest kit.

Donsider - Easyjet from Luton gives you the whole day there. When I booked the flights were under £40 return but have crept up a bit. My team is staying over night on Thursday to make it a 2 dayer.

It is a great show. I go every other year. Try not to go during the weekend. It is very busy then.
Parking is best at the big parking site surrounding the exhibition. Cost you some money but you can get a free bus to the exhibition and back.
You can get some lovely bargains, i always see a cue at the many cashmachines:-D.
I also like the exhibitions about how to call roebuck or foxes, the different types of dogbreeds (ideal if you did not make up youre mind what kind of dog youd like, they are all there in the flesh) and the competition of the red stag rutting calls.
And when you want to book an outfitter, there are numerous around.

The only two things i find disturbing is the large crowd (mostly during the weekend), and the many mounts and pictures / films of (dead)animals hanging around. You see so many dead animals on display and on film that to me it feels a bit uncomfortable at times.

Paul,

I'm just back from a trip to Germany and flew direct Aberdeen to Frankfurt for £103 with Lufthansa. If there was a few of you it's not that far in a hire car. Just not £30 unfortunately!

Mick,

Many thanks for this.
When I visited Germany before Christmas for the December moon I flew from Aberdeen to Amsterdam for about £130 and then went by train to Enschede for two hours where my chum picked me up and then drove on to his house in Meunster. I think next year I will fly to Frankfurt and get the HST up to Meunster.

How did you get on in Germany, where you after the boars too, I got three from a high seat under the moon

Arra best

Paul

Hi Paul,

Yes I was after the boar on a friends revier but no luck this time round although a couple of the lads from Austria got lucky.

My friend is coming over for the Roe bucks this year so hopefully we'll manage to get something. On the bright side I got invited back to Austria for Chamios, just have to swing it with the wife!!

Hi Mick,

Sounds as though we have the same sort of relationship with a German hunter. My friend has been coming to Aberdeen for the past 15 years he spends a week with me roebuck stalking and fishing on the Dee. So far he has shot a Gold and a Bronze with me. I then spend a week with him on his revier in Burgen Mozel about 30 Km up river from Koblenz. As we each have like minded friends also he has stalked stags with me on the west coast and I have been to a couple of shoots in East Germany.

You will have to let me know how you get on in Austria.

Wiedmansheil.

Paul

Yeah Paul,

Sounds like a similar relationship but no medals unfortunately! My friend is near Mannheim in the Palatinate region and has a place south of Salzburg. Send me a PM next time your on the Dee and if I'm free I'll give the dogs a walk bring a 'flask' to put a face to a name.

Regards

Mick

to get into the show is cheap and food and beer is cheap but every think i think is more expensive there but i spend so long looking round the show i forget what i wanted to buy so that helps with the cost

Cheers, only things I am after are some fancy carved trophy shields, but as you say no doubt so much there that i will forget those and buy something else.
