Superb is the short answer. Made for the job, shot quite a few UK pigs with it. Took it to Croatia last year but didn’t get much chance to put it to the test so going back this year to settle the score!

i do do use a rail mount Swarovski Z6i 2.5-15x44 but I’m not sure if a more driven type scope would be better such as an aim point or something like a 1-4 x 22 etc

Of course the 1-4x22 is made for the job, but turn down the volume on your scope and that will do the job and your using a set up your familiar with.

Might be okay but there’s a massive FOV difference on minimum magnification between the 2.5-15x44 with 16m @ 100m and, say the 1-6x24 from the same model line with over 42m. At closer ranges it could mean the difference between a good hit and not even acquiring the target.

the advice to "turn it down" and you would be ok, might be good in certain areas, where i shot in Poland last year you were not going to get a shot more that 35m over the 4 days. so its open sights or small red dots only. if you were going speak to the guide or someone who has been to that area to find out what its like. i am going back this year and its going tobe my drilling or a 12 bore semi with slugs.

Totally agree with Andy7mm take a cannon if you think it will work but at least take a smoke pole that's up to the job. But at the end of the day when you have a 75 kg plus pig coming at you always remember accuracy kills. As backup take a bayonet I did

You never know what type of peg you'll shoot, until the peg is picked, and you see it for yourself.

It could be on a tight, narrow, and overgrown ride, where boar will appear literally yards from you, or you have a window a few yards wide, or over open fields, where your shots could be a couple of hundred yards.

If you have a scope that could really make for a disappointing trip, and understandably, you don't want to spend a lot on a 1-4, 1-6 type scope, how about a cheap red dot, and quick release mounts, where you can quickly swap the scope to suit the peg ?

Ive used a 3-12x50 Z4i on a 30.06 for 8 -9 years now on driven Boar and not found it anyway impaired my shooting, ive been lucky enough to hit just about anything ive intended to kill with it from 80+yds to bloody close. Even the odd Fox which has been unlucky enough to run near my peg. There are a few on here that have been on the same trips, so its not just the key board spouting off. Get used to your rifle scope combo practice empty as you would a shotgun, get used to swinging it, and shoot front head between nose and eye and you cant miss.
Mind you saying that it will be the 1st time i have used my new 9.3x62 and 1.7-6x42 Z6i next week so see what happens,maybe according to some of the posts above and the magnification advantage i have now i will end up wiping out the whole Boar population this time.

But i doubt it very much.

I complement my 270W with a SxS 12ga. with sauvestre slugs...

i think more important than calibre is to have an adequate scope with a wide field of view for rapid target aquisition, I use an aimpoint, but even open sights is better than some of the more potent scopes you guys use for shooting deer and foxes...
