Driven hunts

Jagare , I think if i'm correct 4 dogs for hoofed game is two too many, as in hunting with dogs. (UK Law). :tiphat:
Its not permitted for us too pack hunt so 4 dogs can be used they just cover there own area. Dogs that attack or pull down game cannot be used either.

Thats the point. you know your ground and if you had boar whether its suitable for driven boar or not. Not all ground is suitable just the same as applies in Europe. I've been on lots of ground in the UK that would be OK for driven boar if there were any. Just because its not traditional in the UK doesn't mean its not possible.

yep,, me too, but there aren't. and then there are various laws to consider. the law doesn't take "traditional" into account,
fox hunting was "traditional" as was hare coursing. and hunting with bows and arrows if you want to go back far enough.

I don't see driven boar taking off in the UK. But I'm sure in the future there will be a bit on the field sport channel where somebody had a driven boar day. Driven Muntjac, boar next?

bugger I'm out of breath now,,, I just ran all the way to one of my high seats,, I heard a horn blowing,, I thought it was
ileso with a large sounder of boar,,, turns out it was the local kids in their mums tarted up hatchback

some might say the future holds much darker things, but we will enjoy what we have until that day comes,, and then who knows, some will fight,, and some will fall. but on the bright side basc will probably welcome something and jimbo and kes wiil no doubt have a cunning plan.:tiphat:

A friend of mine has just taken on a game keepers post on an island in a large lake about 3 hours north of me. They have a very good population of fallow and boar and a driven day is not too expensive. May well give it a go. I've booked 2 days driven roe, fallow, moose and boar with a reasonably local agricultural/ hunting college. If it turns out OK may rethink my hunting trips abroad.

I think your right and its good to see Jimbo back in action.

WIBBLE!!o_O ;)

Here in Scotland it would be not only impossible but also illegal to close footpaths.
I am old enough to remember when driving Roe was regularly practiced to shotguns certainly and have seen s some really bad shooting for the roe I mean,
gut shot , haunched etc. And from what I can gather from clients this is also a regular occurrence in Continental driven hunts with rifles.
I also attend a few fox drives a year (with foot packs)where I and several others others will carry a rifle only a select few are invited to carry a rifle most are armed with shotguns .
I certainly would not want to be within a couple of hundred yards of someone shooting at a running target with a rifle unless I knew him really well.
I know that each rifle is dedicated a safe fire zone however I also know that in Belgium each year there are are accidents more often than not fatal and I suspect its the same in other European countries where driven hunting takes place.
For those reasons I'm out plenty of opportunity in Europe and elsewhere for driven hunting if that's your thing, don't think that it is either practical nor is there a real demand for it in the UK. it is a European tradition not a UK. tradition.

WAS GOING TO ADD DONT WAIT FOR BASC BY THEN WE WILL ALL HAVE PLASTIC TEETH AND TOO ARTHRITIC TO SQUEEZE A TRIGGER!.
