Dsc1 shooting test resit

Only 2 type of people who shoot...those who miss and those who lie.

Practice on paper or targets is great as it helps build confidence, both in your kit and in your abilities. But the important bit comes when out in the field...heart racing, deer dont want to stand still etc etc

slider my DSC1 was the first time on sticks and firing a Centre fire and a borrowed rifle.
Never done any deer stalking prior to my test so I know how it feels.
Passed at first try (don't know how i did )

Isn't that the truth...the one's I miss are nearly always the easy ones :-|
 I couldnt possibly miss that...WTF as it runs off. I think its so easy you dont concentrate...I had a spell where I couldnt hit foxes sub 50 yards so made sure I shouted to stop them before then...problem sorted :)

Ah - Chris ‘foooking’ Howard a no nonsense down to earth Yorkshireman who knows his stuff 👍 Have a lot of respect for the guy & not just for his stalking training. On one of his DSC1 courses he had a chap who, shall we say, tried his patience (as I’m sure many did) & took so long to fire his first shot prone that when he finally did so it was followed by the exclamation ‘thank foook for that, I thought you’d foooking died!’ Then there was how he wrote off his truck just after he started his new job in NW Hampshire… he never had any more trouble with off road bikers after that 😉

I remember my DSC1 shooting test well… it was taken at BSRC & as I knew the instructors & the range I was asked to help run the candidates through before then taking my test. I was using a Ruger M77 VT in 243W - it was more accurate than I was. Anyway, on the bench for the shots into the 4” circle before the test in the roe target.

Head instructor calls out ‘fail’ 😳 - bugger I’d forgotten to check the zero with the factory ammo I’d been forced to use! No time to re zero so quickly did the first element again holding off & then did the same for the positional elements. Pass - tfft! Just before the hooter went to signal stop shooting.

Re the OP, you have my sympathy as from what you’ve said it sounds as if you’ve been let down by the course - not just in failing to get you to the standard needed but then being left to make your own investigations into how you can retake the shooting test. In my book that’s an appalling way to treat someone. If you were in my area I’d certainly do what I could to assist you & hope you find someone up your way that’ll do the same.

Oh yes, or you over think it...when I first started I missed a large fallow buck from about 15 yards whilst sat in a high seat. It was so close I thought, "ah ha" the scope is higher than the bore, so I am going to have to aim...wait for it...below my point zero point of impact 😳..fortunately a clean miss.

:) ...ooops......A clean miss is much better then an injured animal that's for sure. I try my best not to miss these dates but as humans we are predisposed to f**k up on ocassion. Practice limits this happening, whether that be in the field or on the range. I had to move both the .243 and Creed to copper yesterday so had a few rounds on targets ... tried to limit the number at between £2 and £3 per shot

Prone...what is prone

The only thing I was not worried about was the shooting assessment and failed it because my moderater was a 1/8 of a turn loose .
To say I was slightly miffed would be a understatement

I missed one under similar circumstances. It was almost underneath my highseat. So easy that I'd mentally already converted it into steaks and joints. It's a miracle I didn't shoot my own foot off, that's how close to my seat it was.

If DMQ came up with an alternative approach to the answering of the circa 300 questions as comprise the classroom test, I'm convinced the shooting test wouldn't feature as an issue on this site or any other!

Multiple choice sucks, OK!

Hi, Iv recently failed my shooting assessment but I’m struggling to find a course near to me in West Yorkshire to resit that part. Does anybody do private assessments etc

Thanks in advance
Couple of the lads failed the shooting exam I was on they simply just rang BASC and got a list all of other DSC1 courses and dates and just picked what was convenient for them

Which shooting part did you fail ?
100M, 80M or 15M

Best of luck
