Eaton Hall Rifle Range

They are not in the line of fire so not possible to shoot. The only drawback, that they are looking into, is the retrieval of your targets for reference. Its a 1st,. so improvement will I have been told will be ongoing. They seem to listen to critique and fixing issues. Most important are drink machines, don't think there will be any draft on tap though. 🤔

To be honest, from what I've seen of the place, don't think the chap who owns it is short of a bob or two anyway. So even if the target came got shot out every other week, he may just shrug 😂😅

The cameras seem to be above, or below the firing line, (trying to visualise the angle of the image) The ability to keep your targets for reference was noted and maybe something that may change in the future. The targets are just print off A4 stapled onto the target board, whether they will stretch to digital print off targets systems we dont know.

To revisit your earlier post - what is your definition of “don’t really need a rifle”?
The kind of person who hasn't used their rifles for years and phones to offer to buy ammunition on their FAC for me, which happened just this morning. The kind of person who has a rifle on the basis of a stalking booking they made years ago but never bothered turning up for. The kind of person who has a rifle they have for foxing on ground they can't be bothered to go out on. I know several from all these categories, and more I can't be bothered to type about.

Need a rifle or not, they have obviously gone through the process and have been granted a license to own. If you have any concern then raise it with the relevant department.
Range shooting has not been my thing, but as i have now retired with a bit more free time i thought i would join for a bit of trigger time and more important load development, so i might be in the "dont i need a rifle" camp according to some folk. I have good reason to own from 17cf to 30, its my choice and the FEO who gave authority thankfully not a forum member.

When will Fieldsport people learn to accept our differences ????
Fishing, air-rifle shooters, Deer Stalking, Pigeon,Pheasant, Rabbit the all the rest. ANTI'S WILL eventually win and we will end up with B all !!! we dont help ourselves by questioning if Mr or Mrs X should have a rifle or not, if there is a public safety concern then raise it to the right people.

Probably not but sadly we are required to live in the world we've created rather than the one we might recall and prefer. That there is such a new facility for shooters in 2025 is to be celebrated IHMO.

I didnt want to comment on that point that was made, my limited experience from the whole facility is that its a HUGE step in the right direction in the UK for shooting. And all the staff have been pleasant and polite, it would be interesting to know how 20.250 would have presented the YouTube clip.
Maybe we could have a dubbed voice over ?

No, we just need to jump in a time machine and punch in a random date prior to the self-loading rifle ban.

Do get off your high horse. If you enjoy yourself at a multi-millionaire's vanity project, good on you. My experience of Eaton Hall is that as a normal paying customer you're an inconvenience to some of the staff. If you're happy there, great.
You have your opinion, I have mine.

This looks a brilliant facility and in the heart of the UK. Probably the vast majority of SD members could get there within two three hours drive if they put their mind to it.

We absolutely need more facilities like this. Given the growth in deer numbers and hopefully in wild boar, I suspect plenty more shooters will switch towards rifle shooting for bigger animals.

As for “needing” a rifle. Really that is down to the Police Firearms Licencing agreeing that they have need. Some use a rifle every day, some use their rifle once in a while. Fir some, use of a rifle is their everyday job, for others the spend their time doing other things and a day on a Scottish Hill or a fortnight in the African bush is a rare treat. Some choose to spend their money on stalking leases, pickups, quads etc. others save their money and go out to Africa and buy a buffalo to shoot with their prized double rifle handed down through the family.

All perfectly legitimate and good reasons to own a rifle. Provided the individual is of good character and rifle is stored carefully then who cares?
