EKA SWINGBLADE G3 & G4 - How do you rate them.

I have and personally like the G3. The double blade option works well and the unzipper works really well opening up and going up the legs etc.

The steel is good and sharpens well plus holds its edge.

I never had an issue with cleaning the knife - just make sure you blow out any moisture, but I can see the plus in the removable scales on the G4.

How does everyone else view this knife - either as a possible first-time buyer or a current owner.

Would you buy one - buy again - upgrade?

The G4 is everything the G3 isn't!

I have both and had the G4 for a year cleaned probably 100 animals with it, and once you get the knack of putting it back together which takes seconds its mustard.

Always used a separate unzipper until I saw the G4 which I imported and have fallen it love with for small deer (I now also use a modified EKA filleting swingknife on Reds done by Alan at Danum - that's very nice but too big for roe/muntjac/cwd). The G4 holds it edge nicely and as NDS says, once you have mastered the knack of putting it back together its a great knife and the Kydex scabbard is excellent! Mine goes in the dishwasher in pieces and so far, I cannot fault it!

I made a couple of adjustments to my kydex sheath, I’ll take pics tomorrow, why only use it on small deer?

Plenty big enough for lowland reds!

I prefer my long version of the EKA on reds principally to aid bleeding but working inside the carcass I find it useful too. I still like my Morakniva too

It is possible to gralloch a red with a stanley knife you know !

All these fancy knives, i wonder why we bother sometimes

I waited until I lost my G3 to buy a G4. Worth the extra money. It's only when you can take them apart you realise the advantage of...being able to take them apart! As above it took a couple of attempts at putting it back together but once you get the knack it takes a few seconds. I'm a fan.

If I'm on low ground with multiple species I take the Eka but on the hill/hinds processing large numbers of reds I find a longer blade (now using a Fallkniven PHK) easier for bleeding them and a 'bigger' knife in general a bit more robust.

I've used the standard orange version for many years and sometimes struggled with removing the roe anus due to the width of the blade, not any more - got one of these now - EKA Duo Black - Fish Filleting And Gutting Swing Knife - 5.11" Blade​

Me too but I got Alan at Danum to rehandle it for me and to make a Kydex sheath - its my go to for reds up on Arran

I completely forgot to take these pictures, because i am cack handed, the one thing about the G4 sheath is that you can undo the fixings and swap it round to whatever handed orientation you are, but by doing that you do bugger the fixings app simply because they are not man enough to be fiddling with, so I simply fixed that problem in my own industrial way, where I guarantee I will not lose my knife through Weak fixings

The bolts are not stainless, but if you really did want to be anal over it, you could use stainless, personally I’m not that fussed.

If they done one to fit roe and muntjac in flat grind I’d be queuing at the till, with a proper sheath you wouldn’t need any other blade, the newer takedown version is a cracking piece of kit

I dont have any problems with roe, muntjac or cwd!

The grind is so much better than the G3, did 6 reds at the weekend inc head and feet and few wraps with the steel and sharp as a razor again
