Why not? 10x is much better for spotting "Suspicious characters" than a 4x SUSAT. Spotted IED's and the james blunts that were laying them with those bins as well. They could possibly be credited with saving a life or two, and on the other side of the coin helped Take some of the right ones.

Nasty scratchy sand can be kept away with a case after all. They looked as good at the end of that tour as they did at the start.

Imagine trying to spot some **** creeping around in this sort of terrain with the Mk 1 eyeball or SUSAT:

Sometimes you just have to use what's available to you, and they were mine to use:british:

Mate, you should send them piccies to Swarovski and tell them how great they are, but you could do with another pair of 8.5 x 42's for stalking!!!;)
Great advert for them!

That will be Safwan Hill, Southern Iraq then! Spent a fair amount of time in that OP myself.

That'll be the one. We were colocated with a yank MP detatchment. They seemed to have an endless supply of ammo which I was all too willing to expend through there various weapon systems.

You were either Telic 2 or 3 then? I used to 'Help' the same yanks get rid of some of that pesky ammo:smug:

Left after OP Granby (who thinks up these names anyway!)and nine years. Getting drunk on the Rhine and pretending the Russians were coming and chasing psychopaths in N.I. was a picnic in comparison to those who served afterwards. Compo...gone but not forgotten and golden currency for trading with the Yanks.

I don't want to sound like a Jimmy Saville, but my (current) wife was in primary school when I was 'sunbathing' in Kuwait!

Specially on site guard. Phone rings - "hey man, you got any mock turtle soup you wanna trade for some eggs"? Well why not, we're only having a rest guarding some nuclear free concrete.
