Expanding versus disintegrating monolithic bullets

I just bought a box of the food grade tin Evo Green, very accurate but havent tested them on deer yet. At 139gr out of a 30-06 they may well prove a little explosive on smaller deer but I'll give them a try.
I have used the same bullet in the same calibre, they expand well at range on reds but, yes, pretty brutal on roe

Of the ones I have shot.

Frangible
Yewtree
Virtus
RWS Evo green
Geco Zero

Monolithic
Fox
Barnes (TTSX & TSX)
Sako Blade

There will be others to be added to this list but these are the ones I have shot and seen how they behave

As you know I’ve used copper a long time, I’ve only used 3 different bullets

Fox
Barnes ttsx
Lapua naturalis

All good bullets, but I’ll stick to what I know works and can get a hold of easily and that’s the top 2

Hi Lee
I’ve read your posts with interest over the years. Could I ask which species you shoot and at what ranges?
Thanks!

I’ve shot red to over 300, fallow to over 200, roe and muntjac 200 or there abouts.

Never ran a bullet over 2950fps always 130-150gn never light or fast

In my 7x57 I’m currently using fox 145gn which performs well, also getting g good results from the 150gn barnes ttsx.

Mi was going to see if I could lay my mits on some 155gn lapua naturalis but don’t know if I can be bothered with the hassle

However you are also saying they don’t cause excessive damage despite what others say 🤔
I didn't say frangible bullets don't cause excessive damage. I said mine don't burst rumens or leave many copper fragments in the carcass.

IMHO it's simply horses for courses. What delivers effective damage on a red hind at 350 yds will, invariably produce excessive damage on a roe at 80 yds.

In 6.5mm, on the hill, at range - I tried two types of petalling copper and nether were satisfactory so we moved to a frangible (Yewtree TLR) head which is working well

@ 350m it can bloody well stay there!

I would say thats not always the case…

One of if not THE Biggest stag i have ever shot, 120kg on the hook from memory
285m (320yds)
.308 150gr Fox Classic Hunter doing 2650fps
High lung/chest placement
Ran less than 10yds
Blood loss at fall site was a huge puddle.
Neat and tidy entry and exit
Complete pass through, no fragments.
All the damage was to organs.

Roe inside 100m very similar
Pics to follow.

Shot placement is everything with non lead IMO

I can only base it on my experience Ed, I'd agree though with the shot placement and non lead point. I know a couple of professional hill stalkers (who you know) who shoot everything on the hill with 6.5CM and one with factory and say 'but you need to shoot it through the shoulder' - one of them where the shoulder meets the neck
