I buy my fuel via Shell agency card and it is charged at an average UK price.... my Shell local outlet is price matching Morrisons and for 5p a litre more i can buy Shell V Power diesel by my debit card instantly. Is it worth the 5p extra?

Well I have recently put BP ultimate in my car for the last 3 fills and I have seen about 3 mpg more compared to tesco fuel as well as a smoother running engine. Whether its worth it or not who knows.

I always use it in my garden machinery because it doesn't contain ethanol which destroys the aluminium in the carb. I also use the v diesel in Hilux and get better mpg and also v petrol in a sports car I have and get better performance

Cheap fuel is false economy, you get Mpg with the ‘super’ and it contains fuel filter cleaning agents. I can feel it instantly in my Hilux when I run Shell VPower, more power, more Mpg. I’ve calculated per tank, I get more Mpg running on the more expensive diesel, the extra Mpg outweighs the extra cost, making ‘cheap’ diesel more expensive

also, cheap diesel contains all sorts of crap which with a LWB will sit in unburnt in the long exhaust pipe and create smoke as it gradually burns, increasing chances of failing emissions tests

Well, I always use sainsburys fuel and have never had an issue. Probably averaging 25-30k a year and currently getting 47mpg out of a 2 litre turbo petrol BMW

Diesel is diesel until it gets to the suppliers. Then it's still diesel, but with their own proprietary additives. Whether it's actually worth paying extra for is entirely subjective, I reckon

Not quite, the suppliers dilute the cheap diesel with vegetable oils, etc before distributing. The prime diesel is pure diesel with added with cleaning agents and ‘then’ distributed.

Don’t know specifically about diesel but my super bikes would give 15 miles extra per tank when I used premium unleaded which on a 100 mile tank is a fair bit.

Who cares ........

Fuel gauge is running low

Fill it up with fuel , if your arsed about fuel consumption and pence per mile ,

Buy a feckin bike , erg valves , so many miles per gallon , blah , blah , blah ,

Cars , trucks , 4 X 4 s are tools , don't buy em if you can make do with a bike or 950 fiesta po, Don't give a monkies a hole , who supplies what and what additives are added to SUPERMARKET fuels ,

Don't buy the cars , that you need to feed , if your worried bout fuel n maintaining them ,

Given that the fuel to air mix is governed by the diesel pump, I doubt you will get more mpg from expensive diesel, unless the ECM has been altered. You may well get less pollutants though.

Fill your tank cheap, run it on motorway till it hits reserve. Fill it with prime fuel, turn around on the way back, and you will have a fair margin left in the tank when you get home above reserve, ceteris paribus.
At the same time your dpf - fuel filter will have been cleaned, what’s not to like?

Not quite......
All B7 fuels ie standard and V, Boost, Ultimate etc etc have up to 7% vegetable oil known as biofuel added.
The premium brands do have added cleaning agents which should clean the fuel system over time and therefore improve combustion but the results are far from guaranteed due to multiple factors like how much crud is blocking or disrupting the fuel atomisation.

I could be wrong, but was told my info from my old friend who is in the Dutch fuel procurement office at Shell. Will we ever know the real truth of what is what, probably not. But I do know that I get better fuel economy from prime fuels in terms of £ spend agains mpg, and that tells me a story

If you care so little about the topic why did you even bother to spend time and brainpower writing your post?

Cheers

The standard it is blended at is very strict and is policed with constant testing but I agree that there are potential gains in mpg and power but the sums are usually flawed as to the cost savings.
The premium fuels are usually about 10p a litre more so currently about 8% overall so fuel consumption needs to improve by the same or more to be worthwhile.
