Favourite foxing calibre

We also use a .17 FIREBALL with a photon. What I find is that bullet placement is more critical than the .204. Incidentally I shot my first ever pair of foxs with it one spring when it was wearing a Kahles scope.

243 for me, 70 grain Vmax bucks the wind and puts them down. I also use the wee 222 with 40 grain Vmax which works fine but the wind is our constant companion here in darkest Aberdeenshire so tend to use the 6mm. I have over the years accounted for a lot of Charlies many with a 22lr when clearing rabbits as well as the 17 hmr, Hornet, 222, 223, 22.250 and all do the job, what I think is more important than calibre is having confidence in your kit and practice using it.

.223 for me cheep as chips to shoot, everywhere has ammo and kills foxes effectively and is fairly quiet compared to my.243

Wraith, what powders you using to get 3800fps please? I’ve tried four different powders and one factory load and haven’t managed to get near that with the 39sbk. Cheers.

Off topic, but .. Why Non-latex gloves ? Is there a flaw with latex gloves that I'm not aware of ?
Latex also prone to swelling & going spongy/falling apart with some lubes/oils depends what you have on your kit at the time. Nitrile gloves I generally go for, smilar just a touch thicker & great if you got a latex allergy!

My usual fox rifle is a Sauer 202 in 223 cal with a Longbow/Dragonfly on top.

Recently though I've been using a 17Hornet for slightly closer work and it's brilliant, it's also very enjoyable to use for some reason!

hogdon 4895 bud think of hand its about 26g powder its a tikka t3 supervarmint could go faster as i have no presure sighns primers are perfect brass is good but every gun is diffrent and with this load very acurate just love the 204 just fitted a bifrost stock to it

17HMR. Cheap, accurate and deadly when plugged between the eyes. Ive got more powerful alternatives but I've shot more foxes with the HMR than with anything else. Usually because I can't shoot foxes on several of my deer permissions but when I'm out rabbiting the foxes have always met their maker!

They all have their uses depending on circumstances

.22lr very close range
.17 hmr slightly further or urban
.223 for 100 yards +
.243 for rural work
.30 06 if the 243 is out of action
