Foxing Rifle Opinions.

I have the following calibers in my arsenal for fox control
.223
.22-250
.243

Whist all can cut the mustard, the .22-250 just has a thing about it that makes me teach for it every time.

A fast twist .22-250 would be the direction I would be going if I was looking for a dedicated foxing set up.

Make/model or custom? what would you recommend?

not doing it myself but need some amount of bait stations to lure in every fox that comes onto the place.
Not really. Im doing 3000 acres and have three bait stations. If your full time you probably have plenty of bait as well, although you dont need masses, just fresh and regular.. cameras if you can as well, and make your life easier.
If you have 4000 acres on your beat its easily doable.

custom based on a CZ 550 or Ruger M77MK2 9 inch twist three groove rifling, in the Ruger old school boat paddle stock factory contour barrel, CZ any weatherproof stock available contour barrel as desired. 22-250 would be my choice

we have a lot of middens so bait stations for shooting aren’t really necessary 👍

3000 acre in norfolk is a lot different to 3000 acre northern hill ground.

If you want traditional 22-250, modern .22 Creedmoor, left field .22 BR.
All do, give and take a little, the same. Foxes won’t know any different.

The BR will have longer barrel life but will have to be home loaded.
Anything with a good barrel will do the job. Consider a faster twist.

If you home load....... Then for me it's the 22 Creedmoor with 77gn TMK or 80gn ELD-M, even up to the 90gn's if you wish.

Looking forward to receiving mine early next year 👌 will be using the 77gn TMK in mine

Very subjective topic but in a nutshell any Tikka, Howa, Remington, Bergara, etc will cut the mustard for you in factory guise.

Every. 22-250 owner will recommend what they have, that's natural, especially if they are happy with how it is performing.

I have a Remmy 700 VSSF, 26" barrel and it can push a 50g vmax at around 3700fps give or take and it's super accurate, more than enough for foxes at 300yrds, once I have shot this barrel out i will likely re barrel it to a fast twist 26" varmint barrel.

The .22-250 is such a good caliber, covers my foxing(300yrds) and long range varminting needs out to 400yrds on rabbits etc

Accuracy International in 6.5, and stick a Nocpix thermal on top, dial in the ballistic calculator, and it's job done.
Thank me later.

223 with 1:8 and shoot 69TMK.
It will out shoot you and TMK re Vmax effect on foxs. 600ydsshould be easy enough as long as you get the range and wind right.
Alternative would be tight twist .204 or 20 TAC. 39 BK or 50 grn Berger.

Find it hard to not reccomend a 22-250 tbh. As above most who use/own or have owned loved it. Fast/ flat accurate as hell when set up with right ammo and scope and user! 50g hornady varmint express. Its a joy to shoot.
