Ferry to Scotland - eyes watering…

Apropos of not very much at all but perhaps of passing interest for those of the SD massive who are blessed to have good stalking close by - this is what it costs for an oul fella and his car to get across to the West Coast of Scotland. If the sainted Lady FB were coming it would amount to well over £400 but of course she's worth it….

My best pal is from the Dee , now resides in Lanarkshire.

We go home and get chips from the captains table on occasion , last one being maybe 10 years ago….

I worked on a game farm up the Warren road towards Bangor, it was lovely spot had a few nice evenings in Donaghadee and now residing in Lanarkshire too.

Pretty much in line with the cost of the short Solent crossing between Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. Tourist numbers are declining, down from 2.7 million 25 years ago to less than 1.9million and still falling.

Funny that. Who would have thought that upping the price lowers the footfall.
I am planning a trip to the emerald isle from Europe, looks like fly and rent a wreck will be around the same price.

Lovely spot , my pal was an under keeper at lord dunseaths estate for a while and did beating etc for them when he decided he didn’t want to gamekeep full time..

I’m planning a trip from UK and it’s cheaper to fly-drive. Luckily, I have travel rods, but I’d love to take my RIB across but I can go big game fishing for the money taking my RIB would cost.

That does seem an awful sum of money for what is, in effect, a short jaunt across the Irish Sea. Of course when Stena pulled the plug on the Stranraer-Belfast route it was to "speed up" the journey from Cairnryan to Belfast.......Then they binned the quick supercat and made the journey longer (time wise) for a shorter route on a slower ferry....
So as well as screwing up the local economy in Stranraer, we end up with a worse service and a much more expensive one.
And of course price fixing is illegal.........

Mind you having just booked a couple of ferry trips to Europe for later this year - I'm debating whether to think about selling a kidney to pay for them!

My son lives in Ryde its a long journey from Wales and be time you've paid for the ferry an hotel you could have a weeks holiday in Spain instead of a weekend in IOW but they are worth it
