First Aid kit contents

If you were putting together your own first aid kit for stalking, what would you include?

I’m fairly accident prone around knives, my left thumb seems to be a regular victim,

It came to my attention that my first aid kit had absolutely nothing useful in it when I slipped and cut my thumb yesterday.

I have been thinking along the lines of:

Surgical cleaning solution
Standard plasters
Elastic plaster tape
Standard dressings
Scissors

Is there anything you would add to this as a small kit to always have in your bag when out stalking?

1) The more the better.
2) Less is more. 😁
I think theres a fine line between what you're going to need and what you'd like to have with you.

I would think about this:

Israeli bandage, tournique, extra field dressings. Buy decent kit with good reviews, the cheap crap has no real purpose and just takes up space & adds weight. This is stuff that can save your life. Also, dont forget the little things. As already said, painkillers can stop your day from being ruined. Plasters, tweezers, surgical wipes & tape, steristrips etc.

CAT tourniquet.
Israeli dressing.
Celox Gauze (NOT GRANULES)
FOX vented chest seal.
Steri strips.
Mr bump wash proof plasters.
Antiseptic wipes.

Pretty much covers it for field injuries be it major or minor.

All these items will fit into a small pouch that can be kept on your belt easy to reach.
Any other bits and bobs can be kept in your vehicle.

I have in my shooting bag minimum a proper 6 inch trauma dressing, and a CAT Tourniquet. If you need it you won't have time to find one. Have one on you, and practice having used it. I'm never without one if I'm handling firearms.

Have a separate mini-boo boo kit with plasters, an eye dressing, etc.. etc..

I don't generally bother with anything antiseptic or cleaning, really topical stuff doesn't do a great deal of good, and if it's serious enough to warrant it, you'll need proper antibiotics anyway. Don't rub poo in it by any stretch of the imagination, but most of the first aid kit wound cleaning stuff is beyond a waste of time as far as changing medical outcomes.

(Added edit - if you're cleaning a serious wound after injury at home for several days after injury, or post surgery that's different. I've applied iodine regularly and inadine patches to myself post surgery to great outcome. But I wouldn't carry it around with me in my first aid kit to do at the scene of an accident.)

Agree with this, in the field antiseptic wipes are obviously useful for minor boo boos but if it’s a serious cut or otherwise get it covered, get pressure on it and get the **** somewhere you can assess it properly ie the truck/home/hospital dependant on severity. Then is the time to go to town with iodine etc.

***having been awake for two operations on my hand the level and severity and sheer butchery almost of wound cleaning they do in theatre is so far above anything you’d be capable of at home that it’s almost not worth bothering to try…

Micropore tape is what I carry around always and a fathom of bailer twine just in case, and in my truck a out f date cat c first aid kit.

Tourniquet
Celox
Wound dressing
Duct tape (can deal with most regular first aid stuff with just duct tape TBH)
SAM splint
Wound cleaning wipes
More dressings/bandages
Plasters
Gloves
Resuscitation mask
Tampons

Defib in the car
