First Cwd head i have done

I have had a go on a few roe heads but this is my first cwd how long would you recommend boiling them for I did this for 15 mins but it was very tough cleaning the head off still is that normal or should I would longer

I cant remember how long I did mine for when I did a CWD but when lifting out the pot I give the meat on the back of the head a scrape / tug and if to difficult will give it longer, also use a jet wash to the do the scraping which I find removes the hard work, just have to be careful and keep an eye for the teeth

I did 40mins which made the clean easier but was a tad too long and had to stuck the top nasal bones back in place.

15 minutes is no time to get that cook right deep into the grease and gristle in the bones etc. I’d say it would definitely want longer, I think people over concern themselves with cooking things for too long personally. I cook until meat comes away easily.

When I did mine I found them to be quite brittle when I tried to jet wash them, turned out ok though, I also kept the bottom jaws on my skull mounts for CWD .

I did the same with regards to the bottom jaw. Also found short burst on the jet wash were best to keep things safe

They sit better with lower jaw left on, they are a good conversation piece with visitors who have never see CWD before. They always think it some type of carnivore species

I tried a dishwater tablet, didnt seem to hurt.

I just pop some fairy liquid in there myself

Are CWD quite fragile? I boil roe heads for a few hours before jet wash and they seem fine

Thanks for the advice I am new to doing them so any help is good I have the bottom jaw still so can put that with it. These are the last two I got I have the bottom jaws bit have left them like this for now. Some one else did these two for me tho

I like to submerge my antlerless skulls for a week or two In a dawn-dish soap solution of water after boiling you will be pretty surprised at all the "hidden" gunk that comes off the skulls without you knowing, If its heated you'll get a bit of excess oils to come out of it as well, the amount of tallow that came out of my roe doe was pretty surprising and that was just using hot water from the taps.
