FIRST DEER

Wished i had never posted anything now bye the way the deer was removed withing a hour yes any one can look in grass but owner said no going onto the crops
he will get the dog to find it .
I think this is what they call respecting the owners wishes and having RESPECT and being trust worthy on the land
This may be the reason so many are struggling to get permissions because others have ruined it for them
If its what the owner wanted you did the right thing.
A pain not being able to take the deer with you but there will be another time

No did not get to clean it out or bring it home as we could not find it.
The dog found it about a hour later but we had left the farm by then .
so this part will take place next time 🤞 it was a roe 6 pointer.

Respectfully, I’m afraid this did not read well.

With the bigger picture unfolded, glad all worked out. Nice buck for a first. 👍

Mate this happens all the time, I wouldn’t let it worry you 👍🏻

Someone posts something genuinely interesting sharing some real world experiences and within 5 posts someone will be along telling you why you did it wrong, or pointing out how they’d have done it differently (read better) or that you should have done it with XYZ piece of kit or why XYZ piece of kit is crap and you should have bought piece ABC… usually without full possession of the facts as well.

Talkers and stalkers innit!

Or as a mate of mine likes to say “potential submarine passengers” 😁

Congrats on the deer chap, and glad it all worked out with retrieval! Here’s to many more!

I think the submarine you are referring to is constructed entirely from concrete Stu 😎

Never lost a deer, you have not shot many, took two hours to find the deer in the picture in a standing hay crop

Cheers guys for the good comments and those that have helped me in getting my first deer the deer was not lost as i stated at first but found withing a hour this was my wording only

jamouk yes I got there after all this time

I find it amazing that some people don't know all the facts of a situation but form an opinion on what they think may have happened just so that they can try and show that they are superior to the rest of the members. No wonder novices do not want to post on here. I was talking to the stalker that Bottletop bill went with a little earlier and he told me the buck was in a standing crop and he watched the shot through binoculars and saw the neck smash therefore knowing it was dead. He has an agreement with the landowner that anything out in the standing crop that is definitely dead he would rather go straight out to it with his dog than have the stalker out there trampling his crop looking for it. His land his rules. As he couldn't get out for an hour Jeff took the decision to carry on stalking rather than just sit and wait. I daresay if it was even slightly possible it was still alive he would have gone looking for it. The guy has access to professional tracking dogs only 5 mins away. The carcase is now apparently in the farmers chiller waiting for the keeper to butcher. If you look at the bullet entry on the picture it shows it died instantly

Very well said sir. It’s all about context, and you have provided the context that explains the situation fully.

Well done on your first deer. Don’t regret posting and continue to post in the future. We all now know the context of the situation regarding recovery from the standing crops, so well done for complying with the landowners requirements. Crack on with your stalking journey.

To Scotty99 and other members thanks for your kind words.
Yesterday after some of the nasty comments regarding me saying Lost was a bit upsetting.

I have been lucky and helped by some great stalkers in getting my first deer.

TO ALL THE FOLKS THAT HELP OTHERS ON THERE SHOOTING JOURNEY many thanks we do appreciate this

Did messages get deleted from this thread? I don’t see any nasty comments just someone raising some concerns?

Well done for the first deer, shame circumstances didn't work out perfectly but thats stalking for you. I’ve shot plenty of deer now and am on the range monthly but still managed to miss while out with a guide a few weeks back.

Good luck this was my first stalk at the age of 66yrs and within ten minutes it was shot so may roe fallow and muntjac about
The roe does were no more than 20 metres away at times and these are wild deer they have not been over shot so we did not scare them.

But we all have to remember these are wild deer and the stalker/guide can only do there best it is up to the deer (UNLESS YOU WANT TO SHOOT FARMED DEER ) SORRY NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT
