Flip Up Lens Covers

I have a Zeiss Duralyt 3-12x50 which I bought some Butler Creek covers for however they broke after about two outings. I now use the original bikini covers normally just putting the cover on the object lens as I carry the rifle muzzle up. I was very disappointed with the Butler Creek covers and am reluctant to buy any more as I feel they are over priced. I know they aren't a high cost item but for what you get I would imagine they cost less than £1 to produce. Has anybody used any of the cheaper covers advertised on ebay?

You can get the covers for about £2. I know people will say you get what you pay for but if they last more than two outings they will have been better value than the Butler Creek ones.

PS: I have recently seen the price of the Swarovski covers which goes to show the power of branding.

I hate butler creeks.....hate scope covers full stop really but they are neccesarry. The only ones I have found that I like are the Meopta rubber lens covers.

The vortex flip ups are much tougher than the butler creeks. I've tried both. Only problem I have had is that the vortex, being thicker rubber and all-round heftier construction, fouls my bolt. However, I just slip the eyepiece cover off when I'm in the field and put it in my pocket. This isn't an issue as I carry my rifle muzzle up.

Butler creek covers cost about £6 in the US yet they are almost twice that here, ive seen them @ 3x that on occasion. I agree that they are overpriced.
The eBay one look a bit 'chunky', although it's difficult to tell - for less than a fiver it's worth a punt... i'm interested .... let us know

The Swarovski covers are expensive, but they screw into the objective bell securely, and are made of metal. Mine have been on for 6 years, and never fail.

Agree BC are absolute rubbish. I have some Bushwackers and they are OK. I also have some BC Blizzards and they are fine. Ramsbottoms sell a big selection and they are cheap and cheerful and appear robust. Best way forward is see if you an get a screw in glass camera lens filter.

For Swaro scopes where you need a dedicated flip-up cover they are hard to beat, especially the latest SLP ZF version with the magnetic catches. I use the Swaro SG Scope Guard cover on the Z6i 1-6x24 on my driven rifle, as I just want protection while travelling to and on the peg and can't be doing with any added protuberances for distraction while shooting with that one. Otherwise the Vortex slip-ons are a decent rugged flip-up alternative to the now woeful Butler Creeks.
