Fridge/Chiller conversions

Morning all

Has anyone had much luck in converting a tall fridge into a chiller? I know there are some ventilation and hanger Kits around but wondered if they were any good.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

Loads of threads on here with advice on hanging rails in domestic fridges. A small desktop or PC fan wired in there seems to work well to keep the air circulating. Don't add ventilation holes.

Just added a rail on two bits of wood (glossed for wipe ability) on the runners.

Found that:
Put the rail (galvanised handrail offcut) further back than halfway
Fallow touch the back of the fridge so I put another glossed thin timber strip between the deer and the back to stop it touching
Added a fan inside but it only runs for an hour between charging, this has been satisfactory using it for an hour each day but needs improving
I’ve used a giant swivel s hook through aitch bone

My gamble and hoist for lifting / skinning is paralleled so I can hoist it out of the fridge. Useful but not necessary if you have muscles!
All in about £25 including the s hook and Fridge. It’s very useful!

Been running my tall fridge/home chiller for years. Gets two fallow or three roe in it - worked flawlessly.

Suggest you have a look at this thread - covers a variety of home chiller set ups in pictures 👍

Thats a top shout, Essexsussex.

Something to stop the carcass touching the back where the chiller elements reside will prevent frosting and help even temp distribution 👍.
Just off to the shed for a fettle before the next beast.

My tips, bring temp down gradually, to avoid condensation. The other is a bit left field, incontinence mattress protector in the bottom to soak up blood makes cleaning a while lot easier. ( Dont ask ! )

Loving that last tip!!!

Thanks! Why avoid vent holes?

I like that idea. I’ve got loads of puppy pee pads left over from when we got the pup (she grasped house training really quickly). I was about to throw them out!

Hi Mate,

Where do you get the supply from? I thought computer fans were 12v? So just a fan inside with the fridge sealed totally, no vent for the fan or anything?

That’s what I use in my fridge conversion. It’s a USB-powered fan that I laser-cut/heat bent an acrylic mount for. It’s screwed to the top of the fridge & the cable runs out the door seal, into a USB plug socket.

I just use a tray.
