Great Service from Police Scotland

I'm moving to south Ayrshire which will bring me under West Scotland FAL based in Glasgow. Anyone know what they're like?

I believe they are all pretty good…you will get the odd long wait but mostly they aren’t bad.
Thanks. I'm assuming requirements are the same as in England? When I moved from Dorset to Durham all I had to do was put my guns in storage till I'd affixed my cabinets in the new address and had them checked and then send my tickets in for re-issue under my new address with Durham licensing authority. They didn't question or change my conditions, or ask for named grounds, just issued a replacement ticket once my security had been inspected. Can I expect the same up there?

The Glasgow team is pretty impressive, I doubt you'll have any issues.

I would think it’ll be fairly straightforward. I don’t think you’ll have an issue - and good luck with the move! Glad to have you! 👍🏻

My pal in Fife applied for new rifle grant, as in FAC grant , took two weeks.
Maybe things are on the turn
im assuming you mean an additional rifle or variation in some way to his cert as the turnaround on new applications for a FAC (fife) is 16 weeks approximately i was advised. Im now my 10th week just now-- still waiting .Hopefully get out on the foxes soon.

Sold a shotgun, emailed the details and got an acknowledgment the next day. Can't fault that. Well done Tayside.

Agreed, had my renewal recently along with Mrs Heym. Her ticket expires about a month before mine.

FEO rang to ask if he could meet us both together to be efficient. Very simple and straightforward. He did say that they have had a major restructure of the department in part driven by Pandemic. They have gone away from civilians, then they went to local police officers (which didn’t work as the officers did Firearms enquiries alongside other jobs and they were never a priority) to now dedicated team of serving Police officers who know, understand and like firearms, many are and/or have been shooters themselves, and who will get to know all the certificate holders in their area.

Their focus is quite rightly on the individual and his / her suitability to possess and use firearms. They are really pretty unfussed about what cartridge you want, or whether you are changing between a 7-08 or a 308 etc. But he clearly knows his stuff about firearms and shooting in general, and when he asked about my shooting friends he clearly knew them as well.

Mrs Heym had her new SC back in a few days time. Got a text from him couple of weeks ago now saying all in order, no issues and my tickets will be sent out in plenty of time before my tickets expire in a few weeks time.

Must admit reassuring to have a service that seems to know what its doing and asking the proper questions.

Now, imagine that with some degree of consistency across the country, and we'd be in a better place.

Quite. I do occasionally think about moving back down south and then read about the shambles down there, and I love the fact i live north of the border.

From what I’ve been told, this is the new model that is to go out across all Scotland. The days of response cops having to fit enquiries in “when they have time” should be on the way out.

So up and down. Not that long since Fife were taking several months on anything. To be fair to North, generally pretty good. One clerical cock up with me, requiring visits to correct their cut n paste errors, and double home visits during COVID, with an emphasis during renewal on reducing entitlement to quantity of loaded ammo held.
They're only doing the paymasters bidding.

Aye, but how will they pay now they’re bankrupt? 😁
