Greenman Forge - Beware- Money lost

I agree completely. I can speak for Snake’s knives, which are considerably less expensive and excellent. It is one of my favourites, within my collection.
"within my collection"
Do people not buy these knives to use and if so why the need for more than two at most, one to use and one to keep 'just in case' ?
My mostly used knife is a Deer Stalker that had a gut hook on it which I ground off.
As a result it looks far from pretty, in fact some would say ugly, but I find it does the job and probably only cost me around £30 many years ago.
I know some of the knives offered on SD look really beautiful but also command an arm and a leg so cannot really understand why people buy such things, unless, as was said it is for a collection where pretty is very important.

I have a collection, I use maybe 6 or 7 different ones, they range in price from found lying in a field to many hundreds of pounds, I use one that’s several hundred and the rest are all sub £20.

I do like knives and enjoy their beauty. Each is functional and regularly used. They range from cheap to mid-price ( a recent Marc Zabroski is the most expensive).

When you own a collection of knives which and how, do you choose which one to take with you when going out ?
Each one in order or if you are going out on your own and don't need to show anybody what a pretty knife you have ;)
I might sound a bit picky but I genuinely cannot understand anyone having a collection of knives.

I have a few firm favourites, nothing to do with cost or prettiness, some just feel right, others have the right size and shape blade for what I want

The company is showing as not insolvent, no court judgements, mortgages or charges but it is showing as negative equity and a high risk of failure and delinquency.
If you are going to turn up and ask for your stuff (not illegal AFAIK) perhaps just take a written letter of what is you want and the payment date and reference and record the interaction to avoid the risk of porky pies and a he-said, she-said later on. The address I can see is the Wharfe crescent one above.

Good luck.

P.S. Emberleaf knives are expensive because of the materials and time that goes into them. I don't think the chaps are getting rich out of it but are passionate about what they do and do produce a quality product and service backing it up to match. That said, they are not for me.
I make my own knives (nowhere near on par) so can appreciate the time and expertise.

I carry 2-3 in my rucksack, a couple go in the rifle case (I forgot my rucksack at home once). Usually pick whichever I fancy, after the shot. The ones I use most often are a Boker Madera Arbolito, Snake’s, Zabroski or a Martinii. Cold steel is a bit shabby quality, Mora is OK. Does that answer your question?

Emberleafs are beatiful. Someday I’ll cough up for a Garron.

Companies House had it ready to be struck off until someone objected on 13th Jan! Looks like the vultures are circling and they don't want him to be able to hide behind insolvency

That would be automatic, for failing to file accounts by the due date (October 2021). Issued in December 2021. It is not onerous to do so.

Indicative of some disorganisation, at best.

There is a process to try to recover the situation, which perhaps is being pursued. Hence the suspension, before it gets to the Second Gazette notice.

Always worth checking out a business before dealing with them, particularly those that require money up front, even for a small thing like a custom knife from a one person company. Caveat Emptor.

My advise would be to act soon rather than later.Could try going round to see him then start legal action.
Before the company goes belly up.Because once he goes bust. You will be at the bottom of a long list wanting goods and money.Customs and Tax go to the top of the list.

Knocking on his door is all well and good, but should that go tits up. He becoms threatned, emotions run high or indeed reports you for threatening behaviour its bye bye FAC.
Go through the proper channels, small claims court, fraud/theft by deception, action fraud etc etc. Make it a point on his social media page but me personally, knocking on someones door whos wronged me would be the last thing I would do.

15 months on, and counting before Companies House might have the next filing.. Just reading the 2020 balance sheet, it seems that he had borrowed nearly £28,000 (including interest) to buy £18,000 of depreciating fixed assets (equipment, tools, stock, office equipment equipment, who knows ?) That might not realise that in a fire sale.

Doesn't sound like a business plan to me, no matter how many knives he might be able to make, and sell for profit, on his own. £4.500 cash in bank, £430 pre-sales declared Maybe also having to pay rental on premises. Doubtless he had high hopes, and I would not knock down an entrepreneur for trying, and convincing investors.

But who am I to judge ? Life happens, particularly for a one man band with no resilience, the last two years have been hard for many.

Agreed. The only door I recommend knocking on is that of your local GP Surgery when, £110 later, you hopefully collect a signed FAC renewal/application medical proforma.
