This has been covered before on SD. Here's what I posted on that past thread:
I think that the scam is this. That they "accidentally" send you a miswritten cheque for a much larger amount. But then say so as not to delay the matter can you simply bank the cheque anyway and then make a bank transfer to refund the difference. And they'll be around as soon as that is done to collect the gun. But of course thet never come and that cheque? It gets reversed. So although you've still go the gun (and it could have been a kilo of lemons for all it matters as it never was about the product and they never ever were going to turn up to take possession) you are £XXX out of pocket from the "refund" you made on that miswritten cheque.
Yes i got over 1/2 dozen ones too… so annoying, one even said they wanted each of my rifles … just insane… i have my shotgun on there for 1800 and replied yes if u can do 3000, they said yesIve a couple of adverts on guntrader, a couple of days ago I got a blatantly foreign sounding request for more info etc. Easily identifiable as they asked some daft question about licence which would have been obvious to a real FAC owner. Phone number was also incorrect and didnt follow UK standard. So I blanked it,
Now I've received another which was completely normal sounding to the extent it was casual if you know what i mean, when I went to copy the email to reply I recognised it as the same email address as the first enquiry!
Whats going on? How are these muppets planning on scamming me?
Anyone else had this from enquiries on Guntrader?
ThisThis has been covered before on SD. Here's what I posted on that past thread. What, from a seller's point of view...YOUR POINT OF VIEW...could be safer? After all you have both the money and the gun don't you? Or maybe not...here is how it works. Once upon a time it used to be cars being sold via eBay or online Auto Trader or whatever.

So as I wrote it is not about the gun. It is about making money by fooling you into thinking that the cheque was safe and having you pay them money. So don't worry about them ever showing their face at you door. It was always about the cheque and never about the gun or the kilo of lemons...it was always about the money.
ok but you are rather limited on where you can advertise and sell your rifles... or shotgun for that matter. My Beretta 682 Gold E has been sitting on there for 2 months for £1500, without interest. Its a bit on the higher end as I compared but nevertheless no inquiry. I have other rifles on there too... Bisley NRA wont contemplate any advertising anywhere, Clubs dont respond, other places not allowed... it is diffcult, especially in this stagnant market.guntrader never used it, its about the same as a car boot sale, full of dodgy people .bs
Guntrader’s site was very good and easy to navigate a few years ago…and then they decided to update/ upgrade it and it went down hill very quickly with each new update making it worse than before.I've used Guntrader to work out which shops might have what in stock
it's a shame that even for that most basic task it is awful to use and full of outdated nonsense
would be very cautious about any private trade off there
