Got a poor wee Teckel here with bloody poo

Been sick a few times this afternoon then a bit of blooody diarrhoea.

Still seems in reasonable fettle and am currently waiting on a vet calling back
I know they are going to put him on an IV if he goes in , so what drinks can I give him to rehydrate him

Absolutely brutal it is.
I ended up with a bill of £3200 just a couple of months ago when my dog came down with this. 😕

  • Wow
Reactions: WW.
With mine they were vomiting as well, i know of one Labrador that was put down by a vet that didnt know what was wrong and thought it unserviceable.
We gave the 15 ml of a water sugar salt mix(dog version of Dioralite)every now and again if it was over done they would vomit which put them back.
It was called Haemorrhaging enteritis. Blood absolutely poured out the back end.
They would catch it every few years, as it went through the fox population i think

Yes the blood was pouring out of my dog.
Started with him being sick profusely in the morning and always wanting more water.
It then developed into bleeding from the back end.

Obviously as soon as he started bleeding it was straight to the vets.
IV fluids and anti inflammatories seemed to be the order of the day.

Crossed fingers for the dogs recovery.

Mine has had this today, no vomiting though- trip to the vets for bloods to rule out other things- a steroid iv while we waited, then back with some pills, seemed better this evening. Some change from £200 was nice also.

Update

Was fine through the night and by 4am was chirpy again. Ate a little , still passing a bit of blood
Visits to the vets , they were happy he wasn’t dehydrated as I’d kept him on water as much as possible,

Because he was chipper and obviously on the mend I was told everything I was doing was fine
Diarolyte ( blackcurrant) plus pepto-bismal to aid his stomach and rehydrate

Picked up a probiotic paste whilst I was there .

He seems up , I am relieved.
No big bill.

I’ll add ( although I wasn’t going to ). The e-vet in Edinburgh wanted £475 consultation fee before any treatment if I took him there during the night.
My vet is in the borders anyway so I’d far rather travel south than entertain that kind of extortion.

The vet who contacted me on here was an absolute star , and I won’t forget it either.

Was about to start new thread but think I can jump on here...

7 month old lab X springer. Her poo has never been as solid as I'd like, certainly not as solid as my old dog. Initially thought poor food from breeder, but she's been on same kibble as my old dog now for months.

Start of December she ate 4 pack of deep full mince pies. Straight to vet, made her sick & gave some black paste.

Just after Christmas she got the sh1ts, couple of accidents in house then one had small traces of blood & bit mucous. Back to vet, he said might be infection or just irritated from her eating things she shouldn't & the straining causing blood.

We got some probiotic & some gut health stuff (marshmallow root??) .

Things settled but by no means firm poo. Then last week started with very runny again & one had a tiny spots of fresh red blood. Have started transitioning her onto a different kibble just in case.

She's absolutely full of beans, she has no problem with energy & activities.

Any thoughts or something else I could try?

Thanks
.
