Harkila GTX Boots?

Try Matterhorn or Danners. Get Army surplus on eBay if you don’t want to spend much. Go for new if you don’t mind spending. Proper high quality boots made by people who make boots for a living as oppose to generic clothing manufacturers that sub contract stuff out.

It sounds like the stuff made in current times may not be of the same quality as you guys who have owned them for a number of years already!

Are the other brands you are suggesting any better value for money? I see you can pay whatever your willing to for stuff in the shooting market. Value for money spent has to be the aim, not brand snobbery lol

Well I got these. Am I a snob? As for my Meindls, I got them second hand from a guy on a shoot because they didn't fit them. Worn twice before me for £40.00. Personally, I think I need a knighthood. Missed it for this time around though. Maybe next time. Then you can tug your forelock if you see me. But like anything, generally anyway, you get what you pay for.

i dont think there,s any make of boots or clothing nowdays, that is 100%, i was reading on here about meindals not being as good as they were, cost of products is a factor not everone can afford £300 for boots, danner boots were my go to boot years ago, but the last pair i bought just fell apart in 6 months, so what do you do, one of my favourite coats i wear cost £4 out of a charity shop, who would have thought their would be scopes costing 3 to 4 grand for sale, my first house didnt cost that much, bs.

I would say that buying £40 boots is value for money and not snobbery. That is the exact type of purchase I was talking about.

Must admit looks like you have had a poor journey with them, but the 3 lads I know who have them (plus myself) have had zero issues with ours over a few years. Perhaps you got a bad batch / pair?
Update on this Dec 2022 - there was a bad batch - I had a pair, mine were just starting to go so returned them - apparently they have corrected the issue in the last few months. I got full refund but will buy again - sop start again with guarantee. Bushier were very good and processed all refund etc.

At least you lot have choice! I don’t….. I’ve size 16 feet. Bought some Harkila GTX 12’’ tall from Norris’s of Penrith size 16 cost me £120 …… that was six years ago and they’re still brilliant, though the rand on the toe is just standing to peel away from the first row of stitches…..they’re worn 2-3 times a week in season; pheasant shooting ( I lead the beaters), stalking, fox shooting at night….

I wish I’d bought three pairs as a euro size 51 they no longer make. I’ve meindl bourneo in 16, but they’re quite a stiff boot- even with memory foam they’re not as comfy as the Harkila….

Other than that I have some Columbia boots which are ok for lighter duties- same with some Keen boots- great for a damp/ path trail in the Lake District - not as much use for woodland or open moor stalking…..

If anyone knows of any brand doing a #51 euro or size 16UK let me know ( as a warning a US 16 is equivalent to a uk 15….. I’ve imported boots and discovered this the hard way!)

Contrary to the above i have a set of these that i wear twice a week throughout the winter all day and have never had wet feet. They are on there 3rd season and have been mink oiled regularly. I do wear gaiters with them.

These are my first boots though as i always preferred welly boots so i don’t have anything to compare then to, i would however buy another pair.

I think they were £169 and at that price point i feel they have been very good value for money.

Harkila have brought out a new range this year. They have pretty much admitted that their boots weren’t up to it and they’ve put the appropriate measures in place to address this. I’ve not tried them yet, but will give them a go and see what they are like. I’m certainly not writing them off. They’ve said all the right things regarding the improvements that had to be made, so we’ll see if they are true to their word. I am reasonably positive.

Not had recent Harkilas but had 2 pairs of GTX probably 6-7 years ago. Worn 5 days per week - but maybe only for an hour or so on many of those… lasted 18 months max per pair. Extremely comfortable out of the box - like trainers even though 10 inches; not at all stiff (tried to fit yeti gaiters to them when they leaked and the rands bent the soles up like elf bootees! So when they started to leak, they were useless unless it was totally dry…) Would never have considered full price, but John Norris at around 120 quid seemed ok. When offers ceased to be at that level moved to the “usual” Meindl Dovre… much more robust but never had the 5+ years out of even these that people talk about…

I have a pair of Lowa and LeChameu. The Lowas are great. They have done many a hill stalk. Trampled all over clear fell. Been through streams. And never missed a beat. Comfy and waterproof. The lechameus are not bad but they creak . I've tried all sorts of lotions and tricks to stop that but it sounds like a creaky door. Not stealthy enough for some of the close quarter combat with bunnies.

I do stalking in lowas and do my work in haix gtx work boots, both been fantastic I wear boots 7 days a week and are put through a fair bit of abuse both have been excellent.
Haix work boots have lasted nearly 3 years and still dry comfortable boots it's the only work boots that have lasted beyond 8/12 months.
When my lowas give up il be trying Haix hunter gtx

John Norris now a shade off 200 quid with delivery - as I got a refund on Mendiel and they have gone up to 325 quid I'll give them a go - got the 2 year guarantee so lets see.
Only slight concern is that the Intrepid are made for JN and not generally available......

I have the GTX and really like them. They’ve lasted well and are very comfy. My only gripe is that they are not totally waterproof e.g. after walking through long wet grass for hours.

Got them today - fit is good and they look like they will be ok - but these are still made in China - not the updated ones that Harkila are now making in Europe again - so think they will fall in to the racket of the older ones not new and improved - so really the John Norris ones, though heavily discounted, are probably not same as the new Harkila release.
Will see how they are and report back......
