Has a fox spooked the deer?

I've watched a Roe Buck chase off a fox in the rut, antlers down and really going for it. The Doe just stood there and watched the Buck fight, after a few minutes the fox decided it was on a hiding for nothing and disappeared

Most things get alarmed by foxes deer sheep and cows especially when they have calves at foot.
Seen cows chase them off many times.

Evening All, tonights observations were quite surprising, however maybe not to some of you.

I was sitting in a well concealed high seat down wind approximately 180m from 5 Fallow does and 3 followers, waiting for a buck to come out. There were also hares and a young roe buck mooching about. I watched them graze and play for around 30 minutes before they all froze up and I could tell something was up. At no point did they look in my direction, but instead to a point upwind on my right. For no apparent reason they all bolted off, leaving me confused. There were no other stalkers / personnel in the area.

Then a fox popped up and sauntered across the field I was very tempted to whack him for ruining my stalk but thought a buck maybe lurking in the woods.

Have you seen this before, are fallow scared of foxes?
We’ve found that a shot sometimes gets the deer moving and in the right direction.
‘Spose with a mod on the deer won’t know from whence the noise came from.
KB.

Slight tangent, but a couple of weeks ago I was watching a yearling stag and hind grazing in a field of ewes and lambs in the afternoon.

One ewe boldly made straight for the staggie and they had a stare down. The staggie turned and trotted off into the woods.

The ewe repeated it with the hind with the same result. The lambs are obviously pretty big now but she just didn’t appear to want the Reds in the field!
