Heated jacket recommendations

Yes I agree wool merino is brilliant . I have some socks and are roasting, the powered heated stuff works instantly and is a boost of heat rather than trying to warm back through.
If you start off warm, wool will keep you warm but as any insulator, if your cold wool will act as a cold insulator too.

Doing a fair amount of driven hunting, and spending hours standing motionless in the snow, at as low as minus 14c, you soon learn what doesn’t work !

I find that if I keep my feet warm, the rest stays pretty warm too.

I bought some Therm-IC heated inner soles. I make sure my boots are warm, and dry before putting them on, and switch the heat on low, straight away? Just to get things warmed up, but preventing sweating.

Marino wool base layer, down filled trousers, in the Sportsman sale, £50.00, reduced from £ 200.00 👍 thin fleeces I can add or remove as required, decent waterproof coat.

I’d try a heated top, but I’ve yet to find someone prepared to carry the 12v car battery for me 😉

Don’t go 12v. You need 5v and a usb power bank. I’ve just sold my 12v heated jacket after 25 years. Great on the motorbike but the battery pack, way to big for walking.
£30 from Amazon for the jacket. Look at the measurements in cms, not s,m,l,el etc. £15 to £20 will buy you a power bank as well.
wicking T-shirt, heated jacket, then fleece or puffer style jacket with waterproof jacket on top. Also get a heated jacket without sleeves but ensure it has a heated neck. Makes for a world of difference.
speaking as a person who can freeze in 30 degrees I know what I talking about. And as for the b#####ks about merino etc. Been there done that. If it’s cold, it’s cold, extra heat warms you up and the fancy layers keep the heat inside. That is the only thing that works. Unless you are one of those who has a bbq in the depths of winter wearing a mankind cos your hard as fxxx. In which case, I hate you. Cos I’m kin freezing in my 25 layers.

Get yourself one of the continental style Ansitzsac’s. They keep wind and weather out and warmth in. Far too warm to walk around in, but ideal for when sitting up.

How do you find the heated soles? I have been looking at investing in a pair of either soles or socks. Cheers, Ben

Sorry, missed this.

I find the heated inner soles excellent. Ideally, you want to make sure the boots are dry, and warm, before wearing, same with your socks, and feet.

I tend to turn the heat on straight away, and make sure my feet are warm, and then turn the heat down, or off, just turning it on occasionally, to make sure they don't get cold.

The Therm-ic I have, have 3 heat settings, that can be adjusted directly on the batteries, or from a phone app.

Personally, I totally discounted heated socks. I guess if you only use then occasionally, for one day at a time, they would be ok, although I don't know how durable they are, with washing them too. But I may be away for several days, and I just take as many socks as I need, and change them each day, a lot cheaper than buying several pairs of heated socks !

Smartwool socks inside Haix army cold weather boots ,warm and toasty .Again great believer in wool layers rather than big parker and never in a high seat without a folding bum seat .
Insulation from cold wood/plastic on a frozen morning.
