At the start of this month I bought a pair of binoculars from @Danny25790
As with most SD classified purchases payment was via gift payment on PayPal
Parcel sent with Hermes and the tracking number showed it on its way to my local depot where it stopped and never moved again……updated Hermes who launched an investigation and couldn’t find it.
Contacted Danny as the sender and he lodged a claim.
Needless to say tonight Danny refunded my payment.
Circumstances totally out of Danny’s control but goes to show there are some decent SD members who keep the good reputation of private sellers on the site going.

Why would BP slate Danny who I'm sure is just as annoyed about the situation as he is? That would be ridiculous.
Remember, most of the people on this site are honest. It's only the rare few that get slated. The majority don't get mentioned.

Thank you for you kind words mate really appreciate it. When I last spoke to Hermes and filled out their forms they said the claim can take upto 28 days, I didn't think it would be very fair to leave you waiting that long for a refund so you could get yourself some new binoculars, we all want to get out hunting and a good pair of binos can make all the difference.

I hope you manage to get hold of some soon and best case scenario they actually send you the ones I had sent you when they find them.

I have had a parcel I sent out via Hermes (next day delivery) stuck for two weeks, called Hermes and got a slightly different answer to normal, they said there have been problems at the Sothern sorting center in Rugby, and parcels have been held up for up to two weeks, I then received a follow up email saying as my parcel was a prohibited item (knife) they would not be following up on my request, so I did what I thought was the right thing and refunded the buyer, and kept them informed with everything I knew, I had kinda wrote off that knife never to be seen again, but upon checking the tracking today it is on the move again, saying it is at the local depot, so here's hopping that it will make it to where it should have been a week ago soon.

Moral of my waffling don't give up yet, it may reappear and make it to its destination eventually.

His mistake was using Hermes.... there is no cheaper way to send parcels - you get what you pay for, a quick search for Hermes reviews will confirm that. When buying online and I get notification Hermes is involved I shudder. If I'm buying anything from a group I will always insist its not posted via Hermes- too many bad experiences in the past.

Three things I've learnt with sending goods,

1) NEVER use Herpese

2) NEVER use Yodel, because that's what you'll end up doing for your parcel

3) If you pay by Papal, pay the flippin fees, or split them with the seller, but pay them !

For items up to 2kg, use PO Special Delivery, cheap to insure for more expensive items.


UPS, TNT, DHL, DPD, all tend to be more reliable, but all screw up, at some point.

Just to make you all a bit jealous, I send boxes of bullets all over Australia, up to 5kg for $10 via Australia Post. With a tracking number of course which is sometimes of dubious accuracy. Aust Post has never lost a parcel and most times, except for Western Australia, the travel time is quicker interstate than within Victoria. A parcel to London from memory was about 10 days.

I was waiting for a package off here for far to long,so I asked at my local Royal Mail sorting office,only to be questioned why? when I proved by the tracking number my package being a mobile phone they informed me they were burgled over the week end, I was given reference numbers to claim, which I passed on to the seller who refunded me. Morale to this write up is any carrier can have a bad day.

So how has that worked out HM Government?

I'd sat pretty well. We can now get goods of any size delivered much more quickly amd cheaply and by some carriers extremely reliably.
Royal Mail was always tediously annoying to use. It certainly hasn't improved I'm recent years, since it idiotically decided to compete better by reducing its services.

Our local Hermes delivery girl is great however the bulk delivery guys just launch the bags off the back of the truck hence 30 litres of biofuel over everyone's parcels.

A good friend of mine deals in frozen perishable good .He has used all the major delivery services, Monday he lost £1800 worth of product and £1100 Wednesday, as it perishable the company’s will not offer insurance. He has spoken to the managers and they just say use another firm, but they are all as bad as each other . Firm are saying the ping Demic are causing the issues.

I have to admit that I will not buy (or sell) using PayPal friends and family.
What's the issue with being honest and say its for goods and pay the 4 percent. Surely that can be incorporated into the deal.
Anyway, I have used Dpd as an example but nearly all carriers are the same.
I have listed their prohibited items which if you try to make a claim, nearly every claim will fall at the first hurdle.
Hands up anyone who has unwittingly sent a prohibited item!
