I remember someone being interviewed after police shot someone and they said why didn't the police shoot the weapon out of his hand? So to appease Joe public make sure you claim you were not trying to kill wound but shoot the firearm out of his hand.
and it is permissible what ever the calibre as long as it is a Blaser which as we all know are very accurate and can of course shoot the offending weapon out of the adversary's hand.
of course by the time you get your rifle out and find your ammo and then load it the guy has probably shot you anyway.

This is just my bent on a hypothetical situation .
Yes I would make it clear I could if needed be called upon as I was once trained to do so , but only if they were in danger of death , I would then get my head down and leave it to them unless I was under fire my self and then it would be down to the law and courts to sort out and knowing in the UK I would pos mean the loss of my cert but ha ho what price saving life from a nutjob !!! I won't /could run away and hide while others are trying to defend me with a stick?
but that's my 2 p worth for what its worth

I think police are trained in that situation, to shoot the suspected terrorist in the back of the neck, and sever his spinal cord, so he cannot 'press a button'' and set off a suicide bomb. So if you hit him centre mass when he was surrounded by people, and had a belt full of explosives on him, with a trigger, which he subsequently pressed, you could have just contributed to many more deaths.

But being serious, I'd say if someone is trying to shoot me, that would make them lawful. Not a situation I ever want to be in.

Dave, I think in most circumstances the police are trained to shoot centre of mass, not go for risky head/neck shots, unless there is very good reason to believe that doing so will increase the risk.
Yeh, I know...In fact thinking on it, I think my example might come from the miami vice movie....
