I've tried various options over the years - bits of foam, camping mats cut to size and prefer something like this: Allen Self Inflating Camo Seat - a small inflatable cushion. I find them handy for clipping around the waste so your hands are feee for stalking into a seat, but the problem is these Allen ones just don't last. They appear solid enough from the outside but they leak air after a few uses - my current one is flat and pointless after about 2 mins sitting on it! I've tried repairing it with bike puncture repair kit, but to be honest it's now leaking from so many places that'd end up more patch than seat!

Has as anyone come across a more robust option - needs to be able to fit in a pocket or clip around the waist as I'll often stalk for a while before ending up in a seat.

Might be worth a look.

I've just had a week using various High seats and each one had a 4" thick square of polystyrene in each one, not that I needed it this time of year.
As most of them were enclosed there was no problem leaving it in the high seat but one of them was a normal high seat and the bit of polystyrene was held on the seat with string so that it could be turned over if wet.

+1, I use 2" polystyrene. My seats came with comfortable foam filled camo but the crows peck them until rendered useless. I tuck the polystyrene in a green plastic bag out of sight for next use. Cheap comfy and warm, whats not to like..

I have a couple of those self-inflating seats, but to be honest these days I just carry around a square of folding neoprene-backed rubber that was recycled from a pair of worn-out wellies. Cheap as chips and does the job.

When I was hunting in Sweden they used cushions covered in beaver fur.....toasty!

I have an Allen inflating cushion and same issues. I bit of Celotex with a camping mat over it would be a cheap solution.

D

I've found the waterproof insert attached inside my Deerhunter Ram jacket plus the large rear pocket on the coat containing stuff like a drag rope and warm gloves etc provides enough of a cushion.
Spent nearly a day in a pretty uncomfortable high seat with a fella on his level 2 and it saw me through.
You'd have to check with him why we were up there so long
Ram jackets are still available too

They got the right idea. You can't beat settling down on a nice comfy beaver!!!:-D

a while ago somone put on here that they were using the bag from inside the boxes of wine/cider/beer you get and just blowing them up through the tap and the just letting them back down again i actually pulled one out once and they are extremly tuff for what they are and will hold your weight

I carry an item from Cabela's in my roe sack. For those with bad back problems which give pins and needles in the groin if sitting on hard seats, I would recommend the appropriately named (for me) "Fat Boy Cushion." It is made from heavy duty memory foam with a waterproof camo cover. I have yet to find anything better although it is quite bulky.

I would like something a little more compact though, so I will continue to read this post with interest.

Regards, Simon
