Members on here experience with these ? I need to replace my old Terrano.
I want an all track vehicle wich is very silent inside, economic on fuel, as much as loading space as possible,....
I want it for shooting, stalking, field trialing the dogs and all day use. As my hearing is very bad I want it as silent as possible inside, this to hear the phone - radio - speak with a passeger
Typical use is plenty of normal roads and short distances on woodland tracks, parking on a paddock, stubble field, .......
I want to travel a bit around Europe in it. A few times a year to the north of the UK and Ireland for the dogs. A trip through Scandinavia.
My top choice would be a Caddy 4 motion, but these are bloody expensive second hand. As I had a kangoo 4x4 many years ago, I know nothing is more practical than these type of vehicle.
A honda dealer has a 2012 4x4 CRV with low mileage , perfect condition, never been oofroad, no tow bar, complety history of the car, ........
They claim these cars easely do 300.000 km ( 200.000 miles ) . So I wonder if anybody on here has any experience with them?
The mitsubischi has slighly more width in the boot, but is far more expensive for about the same age- km . Would be easier to place the transport boxes for the dogs.

My Brother has one, 2011 and it hasn't missed a beat and is used as you want. I must say it has a cavernous boot, looks far smaller than it is. It does 40+mpg regardless of driving style.

I was going to get the Outlander than I discovered its apparently woeful at towing and the MPG claims were optimistic

So I considered the CRV but eventually went for the Toyota RAV4 2009 D4D 2.2 Diesel on the basis it had an electronic diff lock type thing.

I have been very impressed with it and done 136,000 trouble free miles so far with a lot of off road stuff thrown in. Yet to get stuck with ATR tyres. it tows great and does 45mpg combined cycle even with my leaden feet

I drive M20 M26 M25 into work, drive round London all day then drive same rout home. I often do 100 -200 miles in a day.

Faults on my RAV4 in 136K miles

In the last 12 months the cold start glow plug relay failed. A tracking rod snapped (due to doing a bit more off road than I think it was designed for)

Aside from 1 Battery replacement, 1 light bulb and multiple sets of disk pads and disks. That's it.

My mechanic has a CRV and highly recommends them. I have never seen him work on his own car and in his words "I just want something that works as I spend all my days fixing other peoples cars"

If the other features you want are offered by it, I would say the mechanical side of things could generally speaking be wholly relied upon.

Have a look at the Skoda Yetti (or what ever its replacement is called) or the VW Tiguan. You can also pick up older A4 and A6 Audi Allroads for not a lot these days. All have good load carrying and can cover long distances with ease. German friends have a Tiguan thats used for hunting all the time. Very happy pulling a trailer, or crossing a field with towball carrier and a couple of pigs. And they can pull far more that plated towing weight.

The Outlander - we did an extended test drive - very plasticky and not that quiet and would get rattly with age.

Non of the above are Landrovers, but more than capable of Forest tracks, snow and firm grass fields etc. Run them on winter Tyres and have a set of chains if it gets really sticky. I have an A4 allroad and never needed the chains.

I had a '55 petrol CRV and apart from a thirst like a camel it was very reliable throughout the 10 or so years I had it, I have replaced it with a '14 1.6 diesel CRV and that is the car the petrol should have been, more resposive, lighter to drive and does twice as many miles to the gallon. its only front wheel drive compared to all wheel, but to be honest I never really needed the 4WD even off road or in snow, reliability ? too soon to say but can't say I've heard anything bad, the 2.2 is likely to use a bit more fuel but I can't see reliability being a problem unless you get a lemon.

Got an older model Kia Sportage 2.crdi ,40mpg fold flat seats.Lockable diff for oops moments and auto 2/4wd and with BFG urban Terrains had no issues at all off road and in last winters bad snow .Mines the 150h,p so pulls a 23ft caravan happily all day no dramas .There easy to self service and mines had beaters, dogs and grandkids in happily .
I believe they all use the same GKN 4wd system anyway regardless of make atb

My boss swears by the CRVs.
So much so that he is on the third reincarnation in 15yrs, whilst his two sons and brother-in-law are all on their second motors having recently gotten newer versions.

Atb

There are many different 4WD systems. the Kia probably uses the same system as Hyundai and a few others. The system the VW group cars use is totally different from that, as is the Subaru system. The system use in the Renault/Nissan cars is different again.

Many are "on demand" AWD rather than full time 4WD.

The Honda is a very capable car and the fwd system is excellent. With all of these crossover vehicles they are not great off road on anything other than tracks. I sold my 2011 CRV as it just does not have the ground clearance or space under the wheel arches for anything other than hard tracks and fields. If thats all you need it will be excellent, quiet, economical and very well built.

2.2 Honda Diesel engine is a great block. I had one in an '04 Accord and it was lovely. Also has the advantage of a cam chain rather than a belt so intergalactic mileages are not unusual. Very well built in those days. Can't speak about them now.

I bought a crv, admittedly mine is a 55 plate. 2.2 diesel. I thought it was a bit hairdressy to start but I can't fault it. I have actually come to love it. Lots of space, good boot. Can be economical, depending on how I drive it. My garage said they go on forever mine has done 130k and hasn't had any major problems. I have used It off road and it has been good so far.

As per #4.
My mechanic has owned a CRV for a number of years and loans it me when my car is in for service.
Done over 200k and drives lovely, I have not used it off road.
