Don't think your idea will work, Zambezi explains pretty much why, the same for overseas hunters coming to the UK
not everyone wants to pay for a trophy head but those that do keep the enterprise going .
You can't expect everyone to pay trophy prices for a run of the mill animal, and charge everything at cull animal
prices is unrealistic .
From what I hear, people think that the trophy is the experience itself, not the antlers/horns etc.
In Big Game fishing we’re happy to take a photograph as a trophy and it still ain’t cheap!

But after the photograph the fish goes back ,it won’t work the same with a Dugga boy. This trophy ban is only the thin edge of the wedge because their ultimate aim is to stop shooting altogether. They use say a rhino as an example saying it’s being driven to extinction. On one of our trips we met with an ecologist who studies these and other animals all over Africa she tells us rhino will never be truly extinct as they breed in captivity and it’s not the hunters it’s the poachers that need stopping. So if they manage to stop hunting who will pay for the patrols etc.Cant see any cash strapped government stepping forward to do this.Sorry went off on a bit of a tangent there to go back taking a photo of a dead animal and bring it back is that not going to be seen as a trophy of the hunt also.Believe me reading the language of these people who want to ban trophy hunting it’s all shooting of animals they ultimately want.

What most of these idiots don't even realize is that within Africa there are two main types of Rhino. Black and white. It is the Black Rhino that has been under the greatest threat by poachers, although the Southern White is also at risk. The Northern White is now extinct, due to poachers and corrupt government officials.

Quite right Malc, indeed I would go as far as to say Corrupt Government officials actively supporting and condoning poaching activities and benefitting hugely. Actively supporting would include sending law enforcement activities off to the other end of country and then using the presidents private army to go in and support, if not carry out the poaching activities.

I always feel compelled after the work a team has put in to get you your animal I have to take it home.

Sometimes it can take weeks to get that one shot, however at my current pace I would need a house the size of the Albert Hall to house all of the animals I would like to take in my lifetime.

If that decision was taken out of my hands then it would save a lot of money to spend on even more hunts.

I have hunted africa for over 20 years and have only 4 trophies at home.
These animals will be hunted and killed regardless of any ridiculous laws these so called experts can possibly come up with.
There are more ungulates and other plains game in south africa now than for over a hundred years because of trophy hunting!
My advice is just carry on, just buy a good camera as photos take up far less space and no shipping agent can ream you for air freight.

It would be a nail in the coffin for me. I’m not going to travel all that way and shoot anything ‘decent’ for a photo. Cull hunt maybe. But then it’s a lot of effort to go for a cull and more likely spend it elsewhere. May finally take up game days or lease ground in the uk

Very lucky to have hunted in South Africa and Mozambique. I have in the past brought 'trophies' back which is a massive additional expense and in both cases took the best part of two years to achieve. With invoices every five or six months during those two years it is also the 'gift that keeps on giving'.

My wife was delighted when they eventually turned up.
Sorry, that should read 'appalled'.

Now all safely on display in the 'Man Cave' at the bottom of the garden.

Our little group were due out to Mozambique again at the end of this year. Flights are booked and deposits are paid. I have absolutely no doubt that we will now not get out there due to the current drama.

Ho Hum.

Irrespective of when and if we do get there, I will not (on this occasion) be hunting 'trophies' nor will I be bringing anything else back. My wife has the patience of a Saint but even she can be pushed too far and as she is a Nurse in the NHS I really do need to give her a break.

I consider it one of the most privileged experiences of my life to have hunted in Africa and sitting in my cave and glancing around me reminds me of that every day.

As always its a personal choice but you dont need horns to have great memories!

Totally agree. Enjoy red hinds as much as anything. But a lot of people won’t pay hi end to shoot better / ‘trophy’ animals if you can’t even take a skull back. That said, UK makes up only a small proportion so may not make any difference. The whole thing is ridiculous

To be honest I wonder what will happen with this consultation with the current pandemic. Will it fall by the way side? Postpone for a few years? Will be interesting to see
