So week two of my safari and a new PH this week. His dad gave him a rifle years back that he uses
Can you identify. I know the chambering

Mauser flag safety, double set trigger, European origin?- Interesting that the trigger and internal mag detach separate from the action - I had a very old BRNO that did the same. Apart from that and from my aging eyes no other clues
Just noticed that the forend looks like it attaches to the barrel by means of a “leaf” that is pushed out to separate barrel/action from the stock

Thumbcut so a military action, rebarreled fairly obviously, probably originally an 8mm mauser but that looks like a 9.3 round to me and a lot of 8 x 57 were rebarreled to 9,3 for use in Africa.

Total guesswork on my part though.

Looks to me to be a re barred and re stocked Mauser 98. Got the flag safety, bolt handle looks the same and the fact it still has the cut out for the stripper clips for loading....

Expect it was rebarreled/restocked post Ww2 into a safari suitable calibre.
