Idiots that own dogs.

Dogs and dog walkers are an absolute menace in the countryside. There are far too many of them and there should be legislative controls, on access, behaviour and overall numbers.

Worldwide, the free ranging domestic dog is the third most destructive human-introduced predator after rats and cats and do phenomenal damage to wildlife. It always amazes me that so much heat was expended on ending hunting with dogs, while allowing domestic pets to run completely feral in the countryside killing far more wildlife than all the hunt kennels in the country put together ever did (and I'm no fan of the fox hunts).
If they're not tearing wildlife to bits, the nation's butter-wouldn't-melt dog walkers are disturbing territorial species and disrupting breeding patterns, rousing hibernating species in winter and introducing disease from faeces as well as acting as a vector for the spreading endemic notifiable diseases (it is very well documented from studies in Europe and the US - as well as common sense - that dog walkers and their pets are a significant factor in the spread of foot and mouth disease).

Yet dog owners can do no wrong. They behave like spoiled children, in total denial of their own wrong-doing, arrogantly dismissive of the law and incapable of comprehending the threat their child-substitute pets pose to wildlife and livestock. They expect special treatment and privileges while noisily demanding the curtailment of the working life of the countryside to accommodate their self-indulgence.
The double standard is breathtaking.

many years ago we had a woman off a nearby housing estate who insisted on walking her dogs in my game cover even on shoot days.
we located where she lived and on the following shoot day called round and introduced our spanials to her garden.seeing this she said you can't do this in my garden.i replied but you come into my garden just mine is larger than yours.nevet saw her again!)

So, you're not a fan, then ?

No rant on "HERE" Muppet , just what can happen with four loose dogs. No control at all, but she wasn't intentionally coursing. Just you're average care in the community gone wrong.
There’s damn few people that can keep control of 2 dogs on the loose, let alone 4.
Most people have no idea that their hounds are actually out of control because they’ve no idea what a trained dog is.

Good post... like it 👍

im still wondering how she controlled four big strong dogs
It seams she didn't control them. She just let them loose.

We've had a disappointing event in our village, when a farmer posted a picture of one of his sheep that had been killed by dogs. A good post tying to educate dog owners about the hazards.

Next thing, there were multiple complaints about the graphic image of the dead sheep, no warnings about "grafic content" etc and FB removed the thread.

See no evil, hear no evil = no evil.

It is a shame you don’t have skunks in the UK. A mouldering skunk carcass is irresistible to a dog for rolling in, smearing in, in short, perfuming itself. One such carcass left near an accessible location will leave a lasting memory. It gets on the owner, it gets in the car, it gets in the house.

Just sayin'......
