Idiots that own dogs.

There's something particularly nauseating about those noisy, indignant middle aged women who stomp around the countryside with a massive sense of entitlement and six spoiled, neurotic and disobedient dogs.
If other high profile and sometimes controversial inhabitants of the countryside, say motorcyclists, shooters, huntsmen etc displayed such ignorance of and contempt for the law, and such cavalier disregard for other people's property, privacy and right to conduct their lawful business unmolested, there'd be a change in the law to bring them to heel.
They leave a trail of sh*it, disturbance, and ravaged wildlife, poking their noses into other people's business, blocking access with their cars, trespassing on private property where they have no right to be and stridently declaiming their utter ignorance of the countryside and its wildlife to everyone they encounter. They think they're defending the countryside with their insufferable nosiness, when in truth they spend most of their time defiling it. They treat it and it's inhabitants with contempt and they know nothing about it. They wouldn't know scabious from stinging nettle and can't tell bucks form stags. And they think the law applies to everyone except themselves.
Absolute pests.

Nail on head there!

We have our share of dog walkers here, as our property lies on the edge of one of Angus' largest forested area. Some are absolutely delightful, but others are a complete and utter nightmare to have around the place. As you say, parking where they cause maximum disruption, dogs barely under control (if at all), and a trail of crap and disturbance behind them.

How many of them know, for example, that on areas of open access land (which is a lot of Scotland) it is against the law to let non-working dogs roam freely off the lead between the 1st of March and the 31st of October?

Just another example of how some people consider the countryside as some sort of "Theme Park" and dog toilet.
This is the root of it. They have been taught to believe the countryside is "ours" and under public ownership, and that the purpose of its existence is to provide a free public amenity which someone else keeps clean and tidy. None of which is true. Politicians and the media encourage this falsehood and it has led to profoundly irresponsible behaviour.

Unfortunately, such is the immature nature of our short-termist democratic politics, when selfishness and irresponsibility becomes the societal norm, it receives political endorsement. Mob rule basically. A race to the bottom. Doesn't matter how thick or selfish (or plain wrong) the mob might be, if they're the majority and they shout loudest, it's their "rights" that are appeased as politicians scrabble for votes.

Tbh ,I think i would of turned her around and tried for another muntie with the pack 🤭We are a bunch of hypocritical fools .
On the one hand we are quick to extol the virtues of our sport to manage and reduce deer numbers but on our terms but when a dog kills our beloved deer we are quick to condemn .One less rose muncher isn’t the end of the world .
Quote the law all you like but it was only the flick of a pen that outlawed hunting with dogs ,please remember that ,something that could happen to stalking in the future .
Having seen and been brought up with hunting dogs of all types I enjoy a good hunt ,have been part of all types of hunting something lost on 99% of you lads .The fact that it was a pet maybe is where I’d have an issue .
My own conversation would be to point out the dogs could land her in trouble no more no less .

Over the course of my lifetime I’ve known many farmers and generally they have been a very sensible bunch, back in the day there was always a beat up shottie in the cab ready for use as and when, no one likes to shoot a wayward pet but if the dog is caught in the act it’s a case of bang and bury......

WB.

Shotty, shovel and shhhh! 🤫🤥🙈🙉🙊

The dog did well to catch a muntjac, wonder if it was already dead or injured?
Not at all it was 200 yds across a 60acre field from the wood where the dog must have roused it. When the dog took after the hare which was running 50yds from him, he was snatching at it as it made the hedge 150 yds away. Think greyhound with 20' strides. My Border terriers could catch up with a Munty.

My terriers have nailed well into double figure munties ,they are straight line merchants with no swerve and always get busted in cover or against fences .
Hares however ,takes a good dog to straight line a hare with fair law .
If these were indeed ridgebacks then fair play to the old girl for the condition they are in .🤭🤭🤭🤭

I think munties must be a bit stupid where dogs are concerned. I know someone who's Jack Russell terrier regularly catches healthy adult muntjac.

Maybe it's an identity crisis issue that lands them in trouble. After all, their alternative name is "barking deer".

@Ratel
I see your shocked face on my post .The holier than thou stance on here ****es me off tbh and makes me wonder if I’m among country folk or townie messers .
I’d seriously Iove to spend time with quite a few on here just to see the way they muddy through life in the field sport community ,living by the book they so dearly like to preach from on here .
I enjoy all field sports ,not just a one trick pony which allows me to appreciate and stand up for all of it .
If my posts offend you in any way ,tough ,that’s it real life ,no pretence .
Have an exception evening sir 🤭

The problem with written text, and the reactions, on here is that it’s very easy to misjudge context. You don’t know why Ratel wanted to give a ‘wow’ reaction, but immediately went on the defensive…

For all you know, he was impressed by the skills that your terriers have.

You seem to be a little touchy tonight. My wow face was at your terriers nailing double figures of Munties. I didn't know you had them in those numbers on your turf. Your posts interest me but don't upset me as I have taken part in every form of fieldsport, including being a terrier man and enjoyed running dogs as much as anybody when it was legal. A hare can be difficult as any ex coursing man would know, but that dog was extremely fit the way it ran. My problem lies with townie "Messer's" who come into the country with a bundle of dogs totally untrained and allow their animals to chase deer all over the place when we are trying to cull the fallow population because the whole country knows there are too many. I don't think you could teach me too much about real life and even death animal or human but there we are, no pretence as you say.
I seem to have touched a sore spot for which I apologise if that is fact, but cannot understand how a wow face can do that, I would use Mr angry if I didn't like something. Ah well as Zebedee said "Time for bed" things to do tomoz so my evening has been slightly short of exceptional, though the day was good.😴

🐴🐴🐴🐴. 🤥

Not sure thats of any use. The top video demonstrates how not to interact with a member of the public-even if she hasnt a clue.

The main ‘character’ is an absolute dickwad.
So what did he do wrong? Some context would be helpful and why is the "The main ‘character’ is an absolute dickwad"?

You may have a point with hunting with dogs (although some forms seem infinitely preferable to the attitudes of others’ proponents.

I think the difference here is, even if 4 ridgebacks were permitted in law to take down a muntjac, the owner had neither the experience, or permission to be there to do so.

Off the footpath/bridleway? Trespass.

Having owned a complete mentalist Patterdale whose only thought was killing, with a smirk on her chops when so indulged, my solution was to have her on a very long lead and harness when on public property. She only cane off lead on private property she was permitted to be on.

As ever, it aint the dogs at fault. Its the owners, but theyre not shot for sheep worrying.

Quite a famous encounter I think.

Would you stand in a field shouting at a member of the public while you are carrying a firearm, and being videod?

Trying to ‘educate’ in this manner will only inflame the situation. She wont be educated. Blaming dogs for chasing deer and injuring them to a dog walker who is clearly anti is just a waste of time and might lead to a rise in passions, and of course only the firearm owner will be dealt with by plod.

As for why hes a dickwad, just subscribe to fieldsports channel and watch his input. Blatant untruths about lead based ammunition as well, because hes a ‘falconer’. Like many episodes on this channel - the content is largely based on what the large importers want to sell.
