In ear moulded electronic ear defence

Are we definitely talking about the same thing? The ones I'm talking about have some kind of pressure sensitive device that closes for a loud noise but stays open for normal sounds. They're not perfect but you can still hear a pheasant's wingbeats when it flushes up, or a rabbit bolting through the wood. 100 times better than the type I used to have for motorcycling which made you feel like you were trapped inside your own head.

No..... I don’t think what you describe is truly passive

I have emtec ones and ok few ears old now so maybe what you describe is modern version I don’t know ...

Ones I have, have a filter in them that is for around the frequency of speech to allow you to hear talking but everything else is muffled or silenced

I have the Emtec ones and am very pleased with them.
They do the moulds at any branch of House of Hearing and send them to Emtec who make the plugs.
Very comfortable to wear and you can still hear normal speech.

According to the Siemens site "where to buy" when I was looking at their SecureEar electronic in ear plug, Specsavers were their main outlet...but that could have been just for their hearing aid devices rather than the hearing protection stuff...phone your local Specsavers...it may also make a difference whether it is a main branch or not.

I went in yesterday, looking to sort an eye test for Mrs Finnbear, they advised me they do moulded ear defence from around £90.00:shock:
That will probably be the Emtec ones or very similar. Mine were £80 when I got them about five years ago. They are pretty good.

I use the digital 1. I have no need for the various programmes on the more expensive ones. I do also wear electronic over ears ones as well at the range
s

Not sure about the single program CENS but I've used the Proflex Hunter for a couple of years and find program 2 sounds more realistic than program 1. So invariably that's what I use.

Have used electronic muffs for many years but eventually found I was wearing a single ear plug in my left ear (right handed). Use the CENS all the time now.....stalking, game shooting, clay coaching. Definitely worth having something rather than nothing

I've not tried this yet but I have read online from a few people who have made them and say they work well and for the price I am tempted to give it a go.

Firstly buy these Sonic 2 Hearing Protection Ear Plugs for Shotgun / Rifle Shooting - LATEST MODEL | eBay a set of sonic valves. The kind mentioned on this thread earlier, ie let normal sound through but shut out loud impact noises.

Then get this kit ProGuard Mould Your Own Ear Plug Kit - For Motorsport/Racing/Rally/Motorcycle | eBay and get some help to fit the valve into the kit before it dries. Once dried you can make a small hole from the valve to the ear canal and you're all set. It's a bit of a faff I admit but if you don't have £90 to spend but don't mind a but of DIY for £30 then it should be ok.

I have these,,,,

I find them very comfy.

I use them for clays and driven

But use over the ear amplified when pigeoning etc.

There is a place in George Street in Aberdeen who do all the offshore hearing protection for the production technicians.

Good stuff and a lot cheaper than the hunting specific.

The expert there said forget all the fancy stuff, just get a pair of custom passive plugs ...think they were 60-70 quid

Yes and I’ve had em for work for years and back then were about £90
But for stalking or sitting at a flight pond trying to hear anything other than your own breathing in your lugs it’s pointless.
The point of the enhanced electronic versions is obvious .

Never worn them stalking once, only for range work.

I have never met a single person who wears hearing protection stalking, in real life in Scotland.

In what goes for real life down here, I find the amplification of ambient sounds provided by electronic pods or plugs brilliant for woodland stalking and high seat sessions.

Stalking they really make you aware of any noise you make...snap of twig, crunchy leaves or frosty grass. High seat they allow you to hear so much more that is going on around you which gives you warning of approach.
