Interesting open letter concerning the lead shot/ammunition ban

I can relate to that. The following update from Norway may be of interest:

Funny not one case of illness mentioned though Connor proven from lead shot game if it’s so dangerous must be easy to prove 🤷🏻 anyway I thought you were against lead shot restrictions? Seems you argue pretty strongly for them with your chum 🤔🤷🏻

If you believe that, that's fine with me. It's your choice.

And yet BASC policy is to oppose further lead shot restrictions. It would therefore appear that even they are not convinced that the above evidence supplied is sufficient to justify further legislation. You seem to be swimming against the tide even within the organisation that employs you.

That article doesn't actually form or describe any actual link but assumes much.
How it is written it's leading the reader in one direction using suggestion and broad sweeping statements. That can be applied to all manner of subjects.
For example, I use to work on a sewage farm but it wasn't mandatory I consume others effluent. But if I desired I'm sure I could write an article that implied I was forced to and it's negative effects to me could be catastrophic.

I also note that Norwegians like to ski.
I would wager that more Norwegians are harmed from skiing than there are actual recorded instances of illness from lead.

The article below maybe of interest and I suggest is proof that something in the makeup of skis is toxic and as there is no safe level of skiing call that they are banned immediately!

Motorcycles are the same. There is clearly something very toxic in the motorcycle as they kill and injure their users all the time.
And so it goes on and on.
Fuel for agenda's are everywhere!

You shouldn’t have provided that evidence that skiing kills ! Don’t you understand you don’t need to provide evidence?? Just state your opinion over and over without backing it up that’s how it’s done 😊

Yes, like the noisy brat that gets his way the more he screams his head off.
We all know how to fix that but even that has been banned!
Now we have a generation of brats everywhere FFS

This is getting scary, given lead is so way toxic in such so tiny qualities I do prey the HSE quickly bans all food and drink that contains lead, for I eat game meat only a few times a year but consume the other food and drink likely daily.
Very easy to just stop eating game meet, not so easy the other foods and drink.

That’s the answer we all just stop eating game meet period, then no need to breed millions and millions of pheasants.

This is not about lead this is a case of follow the money.

@Conor O'Gorman have basc banned popping the kettle on at marford mill ? Better be careful with that morning brew 😱 @Heym SR20 have you given up tea ?

I am beginning to think there is an inverse correlation between those who are strongly against non lead ammunition and those who have actually tried non lead ammunition?! With the exception of @Smellydog who gives it a go, and has struggled a little mostly the strongest views are held by the least experienced. I wonder what that tells us? Or perhaps I’m wrong I don’t know
I think you have hit the nail on the head with this one. 😂

Indeed the powers that be banned lead in tin cans and food processing many many years ago. Here are the proceedings of the debate in Parliament from 1961 which highlights all the major problems of such use.

To be clear, I don't have a problem with non-lead ammunition, provided that its equivalent to or superior to lead. I am however opposed to steel shot for reasons that I've given enough times on here not to bother repeating.

However, a couple of observations:-

Firstly, this whole matter is being rushed through in the hope that "further alternatives will become available", they haven't so far, we must remember that the UK is a very small part of a worldwide market and over the past 5 years supply chain issues have been a major factory along with insufficient investment in product development. If the cartridge trade wish to launch new products they could start by handing a out a few free samples to try, just like other manufacturers do.

Secondly, far from uniting the shooting community BASC has apparently created deep divisions within it. When it comes to presenting their case on social media they would do well to start listening to the concerns of others, bullying and ridicule will not win many people over to their point of view.

I’m pretty certain nobody’s ever changed their opinion as a result of internet forums. I think they are mainly used personal soap boxes for reinforcing existing opinions and badgering people with opinions that differ from them. All rather depressing really how entrenched people get. But hey ho that’s the way it goes I suppose.
