Internet radio?

Hi,
In the late 80s when I spent a bit of time in America I used to enjoy listening to local country and western radio stations when driving around.
Was wondering if it’s possible to listen in on such stations now from UK?
If so what would be needed?
Would a Short Wave radio do the job or would an internet radio be better?
Don’t mind if I need to get an aerial set up.
Any other suggestions?
Thanks, Ken.

All BBC stations are, mostly available on the internet save for live commentary on BBC "Local Radio" on some Premier League football matches. For them you have to listen on an old school wireless, aka transistor radio, set. Type in BBC Listen Live. There's even World Service and unlike BBC iPlayer you don't need a TV Licence. I find their programme "Sliced Bread" and also "Toast" interesting which are radio series about successes and failures in business and industry.

Have a look at Sirius XM satellite radio. Not sure if its available over there but maybe through the internet. Available in most new cars over here. We have it through our satellite TV provider and I'm listening to Outlaw Country as I type this. Willie's Roadhouse (Willie Nelson) is my other favorite.

I use the Simple Radio app on my phone and connect it to a decent speaker.

If you’re looking for the best eclectic mix of music, Radio Wanaka takes some beating, it’s a deer butchery staple for me 👍🏻

I would have thought there will be something on DAB radio, if you have a scan through the stations. Absolute country might be worth a listen.

Get Pure ELAN Connect+ or something similar. You can use an app on your phone to find the available radio stations which is over 19K, the last time I checked and I am pretty sure you will be able to find radio stations from every country to suit your requirements. You might still be able to find the local stations you used to listen to. Apart from connecting it to your WiFi, there are no other costs. It also is a DAB+ radio. FM radio, bluetooth speaker etc. You can get your favourities (about 20 if I remember), browse radio stations based on continents, countries, languages etc and can control it via an app as its a lot easier.

There are also a few stations over DAB or FM these days for country music if you want to want to just use youe existing equipment.

I only ever use internet radio now, as DAB is rubbish where I live.
Stream it all through my phone, connected to either CarPlay in the car or Bluetooth speaker at home.
Pretty much every station I’ve ever listened to has an internet stream of some kind now

Radio Garden seems the ideal for my purposes, unfortunately no longer available to UK.
Hard to believe, with all the tech today that you can’t pick a specific towns radio broadcasts.
Thanks for all replies. Ken.

My understanding of DAB is that it is still limited to what is broadcast locally. I found in Sussex that I could get some local channels and some of the popular national stations but a lot wasn't available. Internet radio in theory means you can listen to whatever tiny niche radio statio you like wherever you are as long as they broadcast via their website.

I've got a Roberts dab radio with an internet stream channel. There are an unbelievable amount of streaming stations of any genre.

As said above just find a stations web page, most have a live stream.
