Is shooting PPU cheaper than reloading?

Privi 308 is cheaper to buy then reload especially if you take the time involved

Nowhere near as cheap as reloading for me, 1/2MOA (or better) .308 target ammunition using N140 and Nosler CC 168gr work out around £37/100 (including cases), cheapest PRVI is about £63/100 or £75/100 for "match" which are nowhere near as accurate as a tuned load.

Lapua Brass 05p (10x usage)
41 Grains Vit N140 15p
CCI Primer 03p
Nosler 168gr Custom Competition bullet 14p

Or I can get genuine once fired RWS brass for £25/100 which will last at least 5 to 10 reloads so £34.50/100 which is less than half the price of PRVI "match" ammo

My .243 Weatherby is not overly impressed with PPU 90 gn ammo, it is ok an inch ish group at 100 yards, but compared to most other factory stuff especially federal, which will shoot a .5" group all day long, or my ragged one hole reloads it is crap, but I suppose I would use it at a push if I had nothing else, the brass is ok though.

1" groups in a hunting rifle is bad!
Priceless!
I sure the beast your hunting is going to Wait while you shoot your .5moa 5 shot group into it!
I am not having a go at all. Just the bench marks for hunting rifles seems to have become what a BR rifle should be!

Just tried some 150 gn in my tikka 308. 1.5" groups at 100yd and while I will reload for it, until I make some more empty brass I'm pretty sure if I do my bit 150 gns will do theirs!

A friend of mine shot some PPU 139 grain 6.5x55 in an as-issued Swedish Mauser last week. He took the head off of a wild turkey at 40M off hand, and dropped a whitetail buck in it's tracks at 70 yards off hand... all iron sights. Seems to work for him! My FN shoots the same 6,5x55 into about 3/4" at 100. As good as Federal.~Muir

How long does it take you to reload those 100 rounds?

You forgot to add that into your calculations, how much is your time worth ?

I do reload and I prefer to do so but some weeks / months I don't get the time to do it hence I'm still aiming to find a commercially loaded ammo to have a batch in the back of the cabinet - yes I could just reload a stockpile but I also like the option of just going to the local rfd and grabbing another batch of 100.

I use HPS-TR to reload for me.

Before hearing about them, I shot factory Fusion, which generated the Federal brass, and that can be reused 6/7 times. After that initial investment, it's £1 per round (min 100 rounds per order) for reloaded 140gr Hornady SST with 46.7 grains of N160... If I'm doing my thing right, I've put 5 into 1/2" MOA @ 100 yds

1. Factory SST is £38 per 20 ie £1.90 per round
2. This IS Rocket Science
3. I have 3 children under 8, and if I slope away for a couple of hours to reload, I'll be in the Wanted Ads looking for Mrs Farticus #3

Each to their own, but HPS to a great job for me and the costs aren't crippling
