Is the 6.5 PRC taking over!!

I had never looked up if someone had done it before. Just looked and the 30 6.5PRC seems to be done in F Class. They say about 10gr less powder than WSM meaning quite a bit away.

From the velocities I have seen of a 30-6.5 PRC it is very comparable to a 30-06. Not to be sniffed at but certainly not competing with true .30 Magnums.

a 30-7PRC would be more comparable, but to be honest I question what advantage you would gain given they are both modern designed cases - to neck up a 7 PRC is just adding unnecessary work compared to choosing a WSM.

What I have seen so far the 30-06 seemed not much at all above 308 levels. At least on factory loads. I was thinking more of the performance gap to fill with a new cartridge. A 308 gets a bit weak or slow with mono bullets, the 300WSM is a proper Magnum and maybe too much. The advantage of newer cartridges is that they can be designed to modern pressure levels that suit modern powders and primers. Now that rifle manufacturers are solving issues with in-between cartridge lengths Hornady might as well keep going. I think they have a good hand at designing cartridges, seem to be just right as in powerful but not over cooked. 300WSM would also do well in a medium length action so that longer heavier bullets can be loaded out a bit.

I really do enjoy my 7mm SAUM with a 180gr ELD at 2950fps it’s not to be underestimated.

theres some lovely slippery 7mm bullets available now , so much so i am thinking of a 28 nosler when i rebarrel my 300rum

Currently PRC is more popular for builds

But then so is 284 Win

260 also popular

Creedmoor less so

It’s interesting that folk don’t choose WSM - which in its own right is a phenomenal performer

7 WSM will feed from short action mag with 160-180 class bullets so one could use a compact (short) action

300 WSM is superb for rangier targetry - and it is still performing within F Class circles to tier one standard

Best of both worlds 7mm/ 300 WSM or use 270 WSM as parent case for ease of case alteration

But that requires some knowledge of case forming and reloading to reasonable standard

All do what the PRC family does and have done so for over a decade

But like 260/ 6.5:55 and creed brother
