Should have said that's for a short nose cut, adding back gives roughly the same number.I was told 450g to be in the medals depending on volume etc (that was Chris Rogers CIC scorer who told me that)

Incorrect. From the CIC website:650 dry for gold
560 for gold after deductions
So neat that you guys have a medal/scoring system. I think it’s a great idea.
Whiteheads Encyclopaedia of Deer shows the Boon and Crockett score. Moose (Alces alces). This is simplified but: Spread of 70". length of palm 45". Width of palm 16" and your looking at aprox 230 points. I can't find what that gives you, though suspect Gold as the world record was 255 points.I understand where you’re coming from, stalkers lose focus on what’s important and fixate on trophy hunting. I’d like to think that’s a very small number of us… though I could see a medal system fuelling one’s drive to get bigger and better antlers.
I’ve shot animals before thinking “I wonder what this would score”, but have never taken measurements or bothered with it as trophy animals are very rare- and I don’t seek them out. But if I could be told “your moose is a bronze,” it would make it clear what a bronze, silver or gold moose would look like comparatively.
Not sure i agree with the Trophy hunting gives a bad name for hunting, i score as a hobby at a couple of shows a year, Whitetail deer, moose, bear and turkeys, always a good time listening to people and their hunting stories. It always begs the question, what defines a trophy, and who's impression? I like to shoot mature deer, strangely enough they typically have a good set of horns on them, but i am also not opposed to shooting a spike for meat.
a question, and not to start a pi$$ing match, but to highlight my point on what a trophy is within the eye of the beholder, @baguio your profile picture, is that a trophy to you? Please remember that an anti hunter wouldn't know the difference between a 200 or 500g deer, so any picture to them is offensive
The deer in my profile is a murder buck. If it wasn’t it would have been left. I boiled it out to use a training prop. Not sure i agree with the Trophy hunting gives a bad name for hunting, i score as a hobby at a couple of shows a year, Whitetail deer, moose, bear and turkeys, always a good time listening to people and their hunting stories. Claydy,Hi I’ve just shot my first roe buck this morning, do people think it’s Worthing sending it off after I’ve prepped it and let it dry for 30 days?
Many thanks

I know that’s what I though although I think a couple of years ago he would have been better? Never shot an 8 pointer beforeA fascinating and cracking malform, regardless of whether or not it scores as a medal head.
Why do you think he would have been better a couple of years ago? Looks like he's in his prime to me, that's all.I know that’s what I though although I think a couple of years ago he would have been better? Never shot an 8 pointer before
Obviously nobody knows, but the head doesn't look as though he has gone overly back.I know that’s what I though although I think a couple of years ago he would have been better? Never shot an 8
