I've got a few of those too, but they all run directly off the woodburner.
Pretty useful bit of kit sits on top of the fire - lots of cottages we have rented in the Highlands have them. One squeaked really badly and drove lady FB absolutely nuts all week so thanks for letting me know where I can get one…There is a gizmo popular in Germany that moves the air around the room that is powered by the rising heat.

We have two woodburners, either of which can be used with the doors open, but it's best to keep them shut. The glass enables you to enjoy the "open fire" feeling.it's on my list of things...i want a proper fire.
Any thoughts regarding open fire vs stoves? No need to heat water etc, just to heat the room and be lovely

Unless you got an unlimited supply of wood and enjoys exercising with the axe, I would suggest a log burner, which can even be installed on the so called smoke free/ controlled areas. A decent size log burns for about an hour and the heat efficiency of some of those are as high as 85%. It takes about half an hour to warm up the room and then a slow burning fire keeps it warm through the day or night. Add one or two of the fireplace thermoelectric fans, you are sorted. You might be able to install one yourself as well or with a friend as the stove would be heavy. Got one installed earlier this year and it warms up the large living area really well. Half tempted to work out a mechanism to get the hot air through the ceiling to the bedrooms upstairs as I keep seeing some vent ideas on youtube with a computer fan to move the air around.it's on my list of things...i want a proper fire.

Can still burn coal here, too. But not much point when I own quite a bit of woodland.I'm glad we can still burn coal in Scotland
