On the other hand, one of the disadvantages of the internet is that (often well-meaning) enthusiasts are able to broadcast their opinions without the usual constraints, such as peer-review, that we're accustomed to see applied to matters of science.

Why, our betters, of course. Those here who know better than the people distributing the medicine to their populations in other countries. Like the state servants in Uttar Pradesh, (population +/- 230 million) India, see below. Etc. Etc. Etc.

Our betters, by which in this context I mean the majority of those better-informed than we about matters of medicine, virology and public health, seem to be treating the utility or otherwise of ivermectin outside its licensed indications as a subject for only the most circumspect comments just now.
In my view, the reason for that is not any undue commercial or other sinister influence - simply an absence of adequate evidence in favour of the position the OP has adopted.
I see both sides to this argument.
In the absence of larger and more rigororous RCT, it is difficult for western authorities to shift position re use of Ivermectin for covid.
The flip side statement is that the world has spent a year being devastated by this disease.
If western authorities can fast track vaccines, absolve their makers from litigation, and lockdown society for a year, then why can they not invest some effort in testing Ivermectin?
The NHS is innundated in many parts of the country. All people are under appalling stress. Businesses are failing. More people are dying from diseases other than covid at home than ever before.
There are questions regarding vaccine effectiveness against all strains of the virus. There are questions regarding the duration for which the vaccine confers protection.The Pfizer vaccine costs circa $40. One dose of Ivermectin costs less than a pound.
Against this backdrop, surely we are derelict if we do not demand of our leadership that they expedite Ivermectin evaluation?

Death by omission, or by commission, which are we allowed to choose? Low to no risk personally, post ingestion of the 'untested' medicine which is somewhat less welcome here as compared to elsewhere. Paucity of adverse reaction throughout its thirty year existence. Considered a safe and essential medicine by WHO and FDA.
Still 100,000 isn't a big number, so no biggy.

It costs next to nothing, still. Well, cheaper than a funeral! Glad I took responsibility for my own health in this case, satisfied with the overwhelming body of 'anecdotal evidence' (see Uttar Pradesh experience, #45, among others) I've managed to unearth without any real difficulty. Glad too, that I don't have to heed the nay Sayers, could say I'm neigh bothered! Better results so far than a vaccine that is as yet of unconfirmed efficacy against the various strains of virus, I expect the clever lads will blame the useless PCR test for the rise in cases recorded in post vaccine recipients in Israel (" -Ah, but that's different", yada yada - aye, right...)
Still it's my body, my opinion, my research and my decision, and I take comfort from the fact that lack of peer reviews sufficient to satisfy the jobsworths with their hands on the brakes here in the UK and West generally has not counted for a solitary jot elsewhere all round the remainder of the planet where it is being used successfully to counter the virus, its not as if I'm the first person to try the stuff, 3,7billion doses been used on the planet and counting (global population roughly twice that), still a 50% equivalent of population of the planet distribution is statistically significant, though of course this was for its day job as a wormer, not a virus beater. No, that will have to wait. 'Safer' to die of the effects of the virus here than to risk, er, something worse, from ingesting the paste, because here, it is not yet approved by our betters, I suppose..
It's made from er, Ivermectin, and comes in a paste made of 5 ingredients, e.g. Water, hydrogenated castor oil, titanium oxide ( as found in yer toothpaste) and a couple other inert food grade ingredients. I don't think anyone has concerns about its constituent carrying media. Or, come to think of it, the Ivermectin itself

Watched a briefing today by Bidens newly appointed Covid taskforce and Fauci listed all the drugs and treatments approved or undergoing final trials pending approval in the USA..
Ivermectin was not mentioned, nor were any questions about it asked by the journos

We are both following Prof Marik's I-mask+ Protocol, i.e. 200 micrograms/kg bodyweight, first day, repeated forty eight hours later, and once a fortnight thereafter, always on full stomach; we have decided to get it done after the porridge on Monday morning, so as not to mix it with any alcohol on Saturday eve, on the off chance we have a snifter. Our syringes have enough for seven courses for myself and ten doses for lady Ff, with fresh supplies taken delivery of this morning for the Easter to summer period.
Depending on restrictions we may take a single dose if flying South at some point, or coming into contact with others, not that this is too likely anytime soon, but it's safe to do so in any event. Handily graduated syringes make it a doddle to measure out.
