Jeremy Clarkson

I'v just watched one episode (Top 10 Funniest Moments on Clarkson's Farm)
and almost wet myself laughing and you don't get laughs like that on Country Bile!
If this is what it is about then I will certainly watch many more episodes.

I loved it, entertaining, funny and also a great expose on all the paperwork, regulation and hurdles you need to leap to run a farm ( and often make little money) Clarkson is very Marmite but I liked him on Top Gear and I like him on this, they must surely make a second season it’s had lots of positive feedback and high numbers of viewings

The thing people forget about Clarkson is that he is first and foremost a journalist. He is a time served hack and very good at telling your stuff succinctly while keeping you entertained so you absorb just what you need to without your attention wandering. He distills what he's experiencing down into a few witty similies so that you can imagine exactly what it would be like to sit where he's sitting without boring you to death with technical details.

That's why his car reviews were so successful. He entertained with them but got to the essence of the thing very very quickly at the same time, so you felt you were sitting in the driving seat yourself. It's called a journalistic nose. It's a difficult skill to master and it's why he's rich.

He's doing it again from the perspective of a farmer rather than a petrol head, and in so doing he's performing a public service.

It is entertainment and has also created greater awareness, both of which are good.

However, as the voice of farming and the countryside and local community, think we could do better.

I’m in the next village along from his place and generally not too well thought of. His take on expanding into commercial opportunities is what some farms have had to do around here….but he has a huge marketing vehicle (pun intended) with his show. It brought droves of visitors to a site ill equipped to deal with the numbers who drove in (and again) bought overpriced and not locally sourced meat products, and buggered off without visiting other nearby locations….so the argument for bringing in tourism money to the local community fell flat.

I’m sure with the new series will no doubt happen again. Luckily his idea for a restaurant has been booted by Chad PC and West Oxon DC.

No objections to him making a living, but when it’s at the expense of the quality of life of the wider community…..

Oh and no skin in the game, I live local, but don’t own or work in a business effected by this, just an observation from a localish resident.

Do like Gerald though, often see him when I’m out on my bike and he’s mending walls on different farms in the vicinity……he turns up his accent for the camera…..

It's worth watching just to see Gerald, especially when he's on the CB radio with Clarkson. Hilarious

Exactly what my brother says. He lives in Dean. Been farming since he left school and managing a 2500 acre farm there for 30 years. As you can imagine, he's got plenty to say about Clarkson's efforts.. He knows Kaleb well as he went to the same school as my nephew.

I couldn't cope with it down there. Nice countryside but you can't heave a brick in any direction without hitting some chinless tw@t in corduroys. My brother lives about 200 yards from David Cameron with Lord Whatsisface John Gummer in between and Clarkson in the other direction.

You don't get so many of them up here in Geordie land. Too far from London and they can't cope with the weather or the local lingo. Long may it remain so.
