Jetboil

Hi
I’m looking for a quick way to make a hot drink whilst in my small pop up hide. The Jetboil seems popular, anyone use one and can recommend a model
Thanks

Bought one last year and when the storm took the power on Arran, I was very glad I had it! Keep in truck with sachets of all-in-one coffee for when its miserable. Best I had was arriving at the Northern ferry crossing to Arran (called Tarbert but its miles from there in the middle of nowhere) also in a gale to sleep in the car overnight. They are an absolute lifesaver :thumb: I went with a basic one and IIRC it was quite cheap. Buy spare gas cylinders too - and keep one handy!

Kelly kettle for me. Lightweight, robust, holds about a pint in the smaller version (which is the one I have) and only takes a couple of minutes with any fuel you can find lying around
My mates use gas stoves and every year when we go camping we have a boiling water battle. The Kelly kettle always wins and is much more fun. It is also works even better in the wind but if the OP is in a hide, that probably won't be an issue. A few little blobs of cotton wool covered in vaseline and kept in a air rifle pellet tin, gives instant easy ignition and just chuck in whatever you can find and hey presto, hot water and you get to play with fire.

My shooting buddy has one of these, he was very sceptical as his daughter bought it for a present. He's been well impressed with it. Runs on a handful of twigs and a small chunk of firelighters. He loves it.

Jet boil just does what it says. Boils water fast and sound like a jet! Used one for many years for stalking trips and multi day hiking trips. Just works for boiling water. Its not for cooking stuff in the pot. Using in a hide might be a bit noisy.

Kelly kettle is brilliant if you’ve plenty of space (in a vehicle) and has great novelty value, as well as actually being rather good at boiling water!

Jetboil has its advantages; compact and guaranteed to light and burn well even in awful weather (no risk or raging at damp twigs!) A mini gas cylinder fits inside the mug bit too for extra convenience, easily refilled from the larger cylinders as per one of @artschool mentioned devices

NB Keep a steel/flint as a backup in case the internal sparker quits…

Doesn’t really matter which burner you get-Jetboil / Alpkit etc. I have the Alpkit and would add the following: Try and use them for boiling water or boil in the bag type rations only if you can. It keeps the hygienic in the field. The Alpkit has a slightly wider vessel which means it’s easier to boil up rations at the same time as having enough water for a hot drink. Whilst I have some good flasks, there’s nothing like a fresh coffee, so they are worth the expense in my opinion. Also please be mindful if you or the dog knock it over in a hide made from cam nets there’s a real chance it’ll catch fire (rapidly).

I use one of these plus the extra bits to turn the pot into a cafetière. Look out for deals; mine was £35
yep second that, ive had one of their first models for ten yrs, never missed a beat even up in the arctic circle and cheaper than the jet boil.

I bought a £25 version off Aliexpress.
I made a pint of tea in it while shooting and had a nice rest for a while. It stayed hot for bloody ages too with the neoprene sleeve on it.
