Kahles Rangefinding Binoculars Repair

I recently sent a pair of Kahles 8x42 range finding binoculars for repair as the rangefinder wasn't working properly. I now have had a reply from the service team to the effect that my binos are beyond economical repair (but they don't state what the fault is nor the cost of repairing it despite a request from me). However they are offering me a 'fully refurbished' pair with the latest tecnology for £385apx. I asked them where the refurbished binos come from but got a woolly reply. The cynic in me says that this is a bit of a con and that eventually my binoculars will become the next refurbished ones. Anyone had this offer? Or has anyone got any thoughts on the matter? Thanks

I was in a similar situation with a Zeiss LRF after a fault developed draining the battery. Their response was it wasn't economical to repair but they'd sell me a new one at trade price.

When you pay a premium price you expect a premium service and product. Vortex for me from now on.

I hope you get a good resolution from them.

I sent my Kahles LRF binos of for repair last year. They went to Swarovski UK and they were back in a couple of weeks, like new and no charge.
I am shocked you are having those problems.

I have had a similar problem with my KAHLES 8 x 42 rangefinders.
Sent back to the agent via my local dealer but heard nothing for months. Eventually phoned to be told that I could have a replacement at some costs which I agreed to. Have now been waiting over twelve months but have had no communication from KAHLES/SWAROVSKI at all & no binos.
NOT HAPPY

I sent mine to Kahles via Swarovski last year for a repair on the LRF and was also charged £385 for getting a refurbished pair, I agree with Franks thoughts that the ones I sent, that were apparently BER, will probably end up being sent to someone else as a refurbished pair. They were back in a few weeks though.

Wishing I had saved my money and got a Swarovski or a maybe a Vortex pair now as believe the warranty service through them is supposed to be very good.

Seen so many lrf binos fail, simply not worth it, stick to pure glass and learn to read distances like one used to. They’re hard and expensive to fix for manufacturers, and most use outsourced lrf tech from China. Very often, if a repair isn’t offered, and the ‘beyond economical repair’ is used, it means that it was entirely outsourced and white labelled from a Chinese/japanense/Taiwanese optics company, and there’s no way it can be fixed in the U.K. lrf needs an import export license too I believe, so if can’t be fixed here, not worth doing.
