Knife for a stalkers 60th birthday I've started making

Thanks for sharing all the steps in this project. The knives by Stu Murrell are nice, too.
The filing on the back and front of the tang remind me of some of the pocketknives made by Mr. Russell at Taylor Eye Witness Knife Works in Sheffield. He adorned some of his single blade knives with such patterns.

No worries mate, glad you like it. :)

Well, had a go at the sheath last night, got the belt loop stitched and left the rest ready for stitching today.

Shed blood on it this morning when an awl snapped and punched down through my left thumb! It went in at the edge of the nail like a little hole punch and pushed a small disk of it through and out of the other side. It throbbed for a bit, but like most minor stab wounds it wasn't as painful as you'd think.

Anywhoo,

I cracked on and got it done, or as best as I'm able to with my limited leather working skills:

Leather was supplied by Stu Mitchell.

Now I can crack on a fully finish the blade itself. :)

That was a master in the making i got one of Stu just after xmas and that was a nice knife it had a lovely sharp edge

Been thinking about makers marks of late, and though I don't consider myself a 'maker', I thought it was about time I came up with something a bit better than my usual drawings with an electric crayon!

So today I had a play with the laser engraver at work....

For this particular knife, I'm happy with it, not too fussy and relevant to my British Blades monicker.

Still working out another type of mark, but for now this'll be fine. :)

I want one of those.com

truly impressed.

If you fancy a commission from an extremely patient man let me know.

It'll be painful enough saying goodbye to this one within the next few weeks, don't know if I could bare it again! :(

Glad you like it though Robert. :)

Whizz a PM off to Stu Mitchell or Dougster, see if they can accommodate you. :)

It's the big day on Saturday, handover is planned for Saturday afternoon! We're off out stalking, if we bag a buck a suggestion to 'use this knife mate' will be made! ;)

This week feels like waiting in the delivery room I can tell thee! :D

I can imagine that may get a bit emotional, good luck I hope it goes to plan mate!! :thumb:

Good Luck with the hand over, it's going to be emotional

And a gold star award for keeping everybody occupied for 90 odd posts and no bickering :thumb:

That's that then!

Went out yesterday after Roe, the two old gits went one way with their new steel and I went the other. I had a nice little 4 pointer within half an hour in some barley. Had to head job him at 30-40 yards, couldn't see the rest of him, that time of year!

There wasn't any tears, but I could tell the old fellas were on the very edge of choking up. A beautiful moment for me that led to about 2 hours laughing and joking about stalks gone by and other stuff that's occurred over there Long stalking careers! They've got the best part of 90 years experience between them, and a couple of hours just listening to blokes like that is just pure Gold, maybe even Platinum....

So thanks to everyone for joining in on the thread, really glad you've enjoyed it. The project, sentimentality aside, has been great fun for me with a few good lessons learned along the way. It won't be the last time I delve into the Loveless catalogue for an idea or three.

As Del would say:

Bonjour! :D

Got this the other day, taken a wee while ago obviously, but still, it's Really good seeing one of your babies out in the world being used and abused like all knives should. :)

Nice to hear from you again and a timely reminder too that not all UK stalkers have an aversion to guards on their hunting knive.

Now, about these copper poppies!

Hope all is well?

All the best

K

Crikey.... Has it been 2 years!

Time to have another go I think!

A stalking set for me, and another two birthday presents! Going for a production time record as well! See if I can shave the time down from a year...... :D

Consider this, Day One.....
