Birthday next week so while she who must be obeyed is horsing in Transylvania 😱 with her mates. I can get on and buy my gift from her 😉.
We all try and save where we can but sometimes you just have to buy what will work. You don't need the largest kit with the most stones. The polishing strips are 100% not needed. Even a basic kit with just like a 220grit stone and a 400 or 600 will work absolute wonders for the vast overwhelming majority of people who just want to cut carrots and animals.

Agree. Carbide/ceramic v-block solutions disregard the knife-maker's applied edge geometry and will thus likely damage the profile

Agree. But my best water stone is a Naniwa.
