Labour using firearm licensing to pay for knife crime prevention

In the labour manifesto it states that it will introduce a knife crime deduction program funded by recovering the full cost of fire licensing.

As a labour supporter I am extremely disappointed on this matter because

1) It is wrong that law abiding citizens penalised by directly fund Anti crime
2) it will make gun ownership unaffordable for people in lower incomes - a betrayal of the “working class”
3) it is impossible to find the said program in less licensing is run at a profit- ie more that the full cost of licensing is recovered.

On the plus side as a full paying we may get the quality of service that we deserve.

The Tory government has been in too long and needs to go and a lurch further right is not what we need, but I think we desperately need our shooting organisations to step up and challenge this as I shudder to think what the full cost is.

What did your candidate say when you asked them about it, before you ask, all mine gave pretty much the same response, we support legitimate use but must ensure public safety etc, waiting for the reform reply

How on earth with that happen if they are diverting the funds that they are charging for licensing to programmes designed to tackle knife crime?

It will get worse!

Also, this is being discussed at length elsewhere

Given that the election is 3 weeks away, my basic understanding of biology suggests that you should resume respiration soon….
What we are really up against is the ground swell of anti firearms political correctness but if we have to pay full cost surely we have consumer rights

Honestly I’m not against full recovery as it’s not fair for the tax to subside gun licences but the money should go to the police who incur the cost? I mean I don’t particularly want to pay more but it also seems a reasonable position if we get a proper service

If the full license cost is being directed towards reducing knife crime, how will the service to FAC holders improve? Candidly I cannot see this happening.

That statement contradicts itself. There is nothing left if it has already been spent on licensing. It just means that the police will be paying for the knife crime reduction program.

The "full cost recovery" option has been mooted for years. I am sure that it was argued against by the late (and great) Coilin Greenwood is his Guns Review. It may even have been in the infamous Green Paper 50 years ago which is still being fed to us a bit at a time.

It is outrageous that Labour and the Greens are asserting a clear link with the desire to posses a licencend firearm with the inner-City malady that is ever-increasing knife crime.

I haven't checked yet but would hope the NRA and all Organisations who represent shooting sports are doing their best to get this exposed for what it is.

Any talk of improved Licencing as a result of increased fees, from an Applicant's point of view, is simply a pipe dream.

As a Labpir supporter, I think you have just hit upon one of the inconsistencies of your personal politics. If you want a government to respect the individual's rights and freedoms, then a lurch to the right is precisely what you need.
